NFL 2020 Playoffs – Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Washington Football Team Tips and Betting Preview

The opening night of the Super Wildcard weekend concludes on Saturday evening when the Washington Football Team host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in what is a great opportunity for both teams to progress to next week.

Although they are at home in this match, Washington qualified for the playoffs with a losing record overall which will make the Buccaneers favourites to progress despite them being on the road in this game. They made it through as the fifth seeds and are dark horses to reach the Super Bowl that they host for many people.

Washington Football Team

We had to wait until the final match of the regular season before we knew that the last team into the NFL playoffs would be the Washington Football Team. For large parts of their final match it really was in the balance whether they would overcome the Philadelphia Eagles, which they needed to do in order to win the division and secure their spot in these playoffs. Ultimately the Eagles let them off the hook in the final quarter and Washington are here to have a crack at bigger and better things.

You have to say that the defence of the Washington outfit is the reason why they have made it to this stage. To be fair to their offense they have made plays at the right time but to be fair they were always inconsistent in that department. Nevertheless, they have won five of their last seven matches and have probably just about earned a shot at the Buccaneers where they will hope home field advantage and a reliable defence can get the job done for them.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

There was never any stage of the season where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers looked unlikely to make the postseason, the question for a lot of it was whether or not they would make it there as division winners or as a wildcard. The form of the New Orleans Saints ensured that it is the latter and they go on the road here as a result of that. This is one of those rare occasions where the away side is actually the team under pressure given their far superior regular season record.

The Buccaneers haven’t been to the postseason since 2007 and haven’t won a playoff match since their Super Bowl success in 2002 so it will be interesting to see how the weight of history sits on the shoulders of Tom Brady in this match. He certainly has the offense to go well both in this match and anything that might come after it, while their defence is solid enough as well but there is a feeling Washington match up well to the Bucs and it will be interesting to see if that is the case.

Betting

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are all the rage here but I’m going to give respect to this Washington Football Team defence and take them to cover the 9.5 point spread. It helps if Mike Evans isn’t as active as the Buccaneers would like but whether he is or he isn’t there is a lot of pressure on Tampa Bay in this match and I’m not completely convinced they are going to handle it as positively as some seem to think that they are going to.

It isn’t all about the defence for the Washington outfit. While their offense isn’t going to come out with an elite landslide set of scoring plays, Alex Smith knows how to manage a game and he can do enough to keep his side in position to be competitive and if the Washington defence can get to Brady and disrupt him then the side is capable of at least keeping Tampa Bay honest, if not actually having enough to beat them.
