NFL 2020 – Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ New York Giants Tips and Betting Preview

There is one match left in week eight of the NFL season and it comes from the MetLife Stadium on Monday night when the New York Giants host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the latest edition of the Monday Night Football.

Tampa Bay are announcing themselves very nicely as Super Bowl contenders and a win here will only further enforce that while the Giants look a terrible side but will still be within striking distance of the NFC East summit with a win here.

New York Giants

The Giants go into this match with a 1-6 record and although there is a consensus that they have been more competitive than that, the fact that the NFC East is absolutely terrible right now still means they are in with a chance to win the division although those hopes and chances are likely to disappear should they lose this match so from that point of view this is a must win content for the home side here.

You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to work out the problem with the Giants. That comes on the offense and it is probably no surprise they are struggling in that area when Jason Garrett is their offensive coordinator. That side of the ball is unlikely to improve anytime soon so the one thing they really can’t afford to happen is for their defence to suddenly come off the top of their form. If they do this could turn into an even longer season than it currently looks.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

It took a couple of weeks for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to get up to full speed but they look like they are there now and they are only going to get better after the signing of Antonio Brown. If he returns anything like the player who spent much of his career at Pittsburgh then the Bucs have added another elite receiver to what was already arguably the strongest receiving core in football. They could very well be the team to beat in the NFC.

The real standout thing for the Buccaneers in recent weeks as well as the obvious improvement in the offensive play with Tom Brady getting used to the play book and the weapons he has, is the quality the defence has produced. The two usually go hand in hand. When the offense is firing the defence can go quarterback hunting and when the defence is delivering the goods the offense can bring out the big plays. Tampa Bay look right in that zone at the minute.

Betting

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are emphatic favourites to win this match but it is hard to argue against it. Putting it simply they are just so much a better team than the New York Giants and while that isn’t always reflected on the pitch I fully expect it to be here. I’m not usually one for taking enormous handicaps, especially in Primetime clashes where the underdogs often raise their game but ultimately the Giants are 1-6 for a reason.

Tampa Bay are getting better by the week and with their defence getting stronger and looking more and more like a Super Bowl outfit with every game they play it is hard to see where the Giants are going to put real points up on the board. In order to stay within 13 points of the Bucs here you’ve got to think the Giants are going to need to score somewhere in the 17-20 ball park at least and I’m not convinced I see that happening. This isn’t an offense set up for that so I’ve got to think the Buccaneers cover a large spread here.
