NFL 2020 – Tennessee Titans @ Denver Broncos Tips and Betting Preview

The second part of the opening Monday Night Football of the season comes from the Mile High Stadium when the Denver Broncos open up their campaign when they take on fellow AFC side Tennessee Titans.

The Titans made it all the way to the Championship game last season and they will be looking to emulate those successes and build on them. Denver finished second in their division with a 7-9 record so they have something to build on too.

Denver Broncos

It will be interesting to see if the Broncos can emulate the successes of last season. They go into this one with an inexperienced quarterback, which I never think is idea when we talk about a side with a losing record the year before, but more importantly they have lost their gun pass rusher in Von Miller which is going to put more pressure on their defence. If they are not up to the task then that will require their offense to be counted and it could all come crumbling down.

The one thing the Broncos don’t need is a poor start else that will only pile the pressure on them quicker so we should probably expect them to utilise Melvin Gordon as much as possible here, not just to keep the heat off Drew Lock but also to take as much of the time out of the clock as they possible can. If they can compete without Von Miller that would certainly bring out a lot of confidence in what they can achieve.

Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans go into this season looking up rather than over their shoulders. They did enough to make it through to the postseason with a 9-7 record last season and then shocked everyone when they took care of the likes of the New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens before they were unable to handle the quality of the Kansas City Chiefs. That will have given them a lot of belief though and they have strengthened accordingly going into this season.

Jadeveon Clowney might have been signed quite close to the season beginning which might mean we have to wait a few weeks for him to be most effective but he will relish the thought of targeting an inexperienced quarterback here. With solidity in the quarterback position with Ryan Tannehill and explosion in the running game through Derrick Henry there is a lot to like about the Titans here. Winning on the road is never easy but they won at Baltimore and New England in the play-offs so it shouldn’t be too much of an inconvenience.

Betting

It will be important to assess the Denver Broncos in this match but on the face of it, it is hard to see how they can be as strong this season as they were last, at least in this opening match anyway. You get the feeling that the Tennessee Titans are blooming nicely as a side and unlike their opponents here, there are no obvious reasons why they will be any weaker here than they were during that play-off run.

I get that this is a road game but I have the Titans a little stronger favourites than the three points suggests that they are on the point spread. They look in good order defensively and we know they have enough tools on offense to put the opposition under strong pressure. The Titans -3 looks like the right play here even allowing for the match likely to be lower scoring than some we’ve seen this weekend.
