NFL 2020 – Week 8 Sunday Early Games Tips and Betting Preview

The eighth week of action got underway with a fairly entertaining match on Thursday night but there are some big clashes to enjoy during the two main kick off slots over the course of what should be a tasty day of action on Sunday.

Everyone knows the drill by now. There are two matches live on Sky Sports for us in the UK to enjoy in full and then there is RedZone for the highlights. The other matches are all available on Game Pass or the bookmaker streaming services so there is no need to miss any of the action.

1pm Kick Offs (6pm UK time)

The live game for us in the UK in the opening kick off slot sees the only unbeaten side left in the league in action when the Pittsburgh Steelers head to their arch rivals in the AFC North in Baltimore Ravens in what should be a cracker of a contest to get the action going. That isn’t the only divisional clash in the early games though. The Buffalo Bills host a struggling New England Patriots side while the Green Bay Packers welcome Minnesota Vikings to Lambeau Field in the NFC North.

There are five other matches in this slot with the Cincinnati Bengals taking on the Tennessee Titans in one of them while the Cleveland Browns go up against the Las Vegas Raiders in another. Indianapolis Colts are back in action on Sunday night when they head to the Detroit Lions who will be looking to build on their dramatic win over Atlanta last week. The other two games have a blowout feel about them as the Kansas City Chiefs host the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins take on the Los Angeles Rams.

4.05/4.25pm Kick Offs (9.05/9.25pm UK time)

There are only the three matches in the later of the two kick off slots but once again we have a divisional clash on our screens when the Seattle Seahawks look to maintain control of the NFC West when they host the beaten Super Bowl side from last term in San Francisco 49ers. That isn’t the only divisional contest in this slot though. In the AFC West the Denver Broncos host the Los Angeles Chargers. The other match in this slot sees the Chicago Bears going up against the New Orleans Saints in a key NFC battle.

Betting

We’ve had to wait a while for a card like this where there is a lot to attack and thankfully all the best bets have survived any Covid issues. In the live game first up I think the four point start the Pittsburgh Steelers are getting is a little too big against a Baltimore Ravens side who are going along nicely this term but who every now and again throw in the odd shocking performance in a big match. Pittsburgh will be heading into rival territory full of confidence with both sides of the ball looking in good order and if they can contain the Ravens run game and make Lamar Jackson beat them through the air they might have half the battle won. Matches between these two are usually tight and settled by a field goal or so. This one might well be too but if it isn’t I expect Pittsburgh to cover this point spread.

Away from the UK cameras there are three other early game bets I like beginning with what looks more of a shootout between the Cleveland Browns and the Las Vegas Raiders than the points line would suggest. I guess a lot of that is because of the injury to Odell Beckham Jr but there are statistics on offer that suggest Baker Mayfield is a better quarterback without him and the Browns offense can be more balanced too against a defence that looks wide open. The Raiders are slowly getting their offensive line fit which should set Derek Carr up to get involved in a shootout and so I’m happy to be on over 47.5 points in this one.

Things are changing in the NFC East and I think the Buffalo Bills can confirm that when they host the New England Patriots on Sunday evening. The Bills look a good side and were it not for the fact that the Bills don’t beat the Patriots the spread here would surely be more than three points. It isn’t this Patriots that the Bills don’t beat though. This New England side have plenty of questions on offense, not least in the quarterback position, although whoever plays there isn’t exactly blessed with weapons, while their defence has been broken up. Josh Allen will know this is a statement game for him and his Bills side and I expect him to make that statement with a pretty emphatic win.

In the later games while there has been significant improvement in the San Francisco 49ers in recent weeks I’m still not sure they go to the Seattle Seahawks and win in what is now the best rivalry in the NFL. The Seahawks were turned over in a shootout on Sunday night but they don’t lose many of them and it is hard to see this one not being that unless San Francisco aren’t up to it. That might be the case because they are getting very short on running backs which would take away a huge part of their offense. The San Francisco defence hasn’t improved that much and you’d expect Russell Wilson to take it apart here. Seattle have added Carlos Dunlap to their side so I expect their defence to pick up and they can win this by a field goal or more.
