NFL 2021 – Dallas Cowboys @ Minnesota Vikings Tips and Betting Preview

The final match of the day in the NFL 2021 comes along in the Sunday Night Football where this week the NFC is in full focus when the Minnesota Vikings play host to the Dallas Cowboys, who will be looking to remain relevant in the higher seedings in the Conference.

The Cowboys begin the night with a 5-1 record whereas their opponents here have a 3-3 start to the season but having seen Green Bay already win this week the Vikings know this is a match they really need to win.

Minnesota Vikings

While the Minnesota Vikings are only 3-3 for their season, it should be said that prior to their bye week they had won their last two matches so they were really finding a nice rhythm when the week off came. You could argue that there wasn’t much that was overly convincing about it if you wanted to, and in the Carolina Panthers and the Detroit Lions they have beaten absolutely nothing but they have won them and have a platform to build from now.

To be fair to the Vikings, although they lost three of their opening four matches, those losses came by a cumulative 11 points so if they could have got over the line in those they would be looking at a 6-0 season. They have had to deal with injuries this season which hasn’t helped but Kirk Cousins’ poise has just left him at some key times and that has been significant. Minnesota has struggled to stop the run too which also hasn’t helped them any.

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys got smoked by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their first match of the season but they have been perfect since then, winning five on the trot and piling up the points along the way. Their offense has been excellent this season and the beauty of it is they have had plenty of juice in the passing game and probably the best rush game of any team when you consider they have two running backs who are both capable of destroying teams.

The big improvement on this season from last for the Cowboys comes defensively. They are getting pressure on the quarterback a lot more this term than last and then they have Trevon Diggs who is catches passes like a wide receiver rather than a defensive end. The big concern for the Cowboys here is that Dak Prescott is rated questionable and if he is out they will be playing a rookie quarterback who has never played for the Cowboys before.

Betting

The Dallas Cowboys are odds against to win this match but that will flip in an instant should Dak Prescott be passed fit to play. The suggestion is that he will warm up for the game and then a decision will be made but I would be surprised if they go that far if he isn’t likely to play when you consider they are barely a third of the way into their season. If he didn’t have a good chance of playing then they would surely have just ruled him out completely.

Even if Dak doesn’t go, I’m not convinced the Cowboys are without a chance here because Minnesota are pretty ordinary against the run and Dallas are capable of winning through Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard if needed. Minnesota have done well this season but whenever a match gets tight they seem to be found wanting more often than not and I just can’t see them winning this easily. I’m very confident Dallas win this if Dak suits up but I still think they’re a chance if he doesn’t so I’ll take them here.
