NFL 2021 – Kansas City Chiefs @ Denver Broncos Tips and Betting Preview

We have reached the final week of the regular NFL 2021 season and in a different quirk two of the matches will take place in a Saturday night double header, one which begins at Mile High Stadium where the Denver Broncos host AFC West rivals Kansas City Chiefs.

The Broncos go into this match knowing their season ends after this match. The Chiefs know they will be in the playoffs and will be looking for a win which will pile the pressure on the Tennessee Titans later this weekend in the race for the top seed in the AFC.

Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos were on the fringes of the race for a wildcard spot in the AFC a few weeks ago but three losses on the bounce have put paid to those hopes and now they are playing out time this term and just looking to be the spoilers to one of their divisional rivals. You get the impression that the Broncos are going to go through something of an overhaul in the off season so there will be some players playing for their places here.

The change is likely to come on offense. That has not produced at all when it has mattered recently. They have failed to put more than 13pts on the board in their last three matches and when you have to win to stay alive that just isn’t good enough. It isn’t like they played elite defences in that time either. Drew Lock has one more chance here to prove he can be of use next season you would think. In the main the Broncos defence is going well but even that unit succumbed to the pressure last week.

Kansas City Chiefs

The reigning AFC champions Kansas City Chiefs know they have already won the AFC West division this season and as such they will be hosting a postseason match, but they haven’t yet secured the top seed in the Conference. They will get that if they win here and Tennessee Titans lose on Sunday so they have the chance to do their bit and put the pressure on that side. The Chiefs lost control of their own destiny in that regard last week when they were beaten by the Cincinnati Bengals.

That ended a run of eight wins in succession, a run of games where in the main their defence played excellently but they were found wanting a little last week and had no answer to Ja’Marr Chase in particular. That unit should get an easier time of it here against a Broncos team who are devoid to the big plays but they need to perform better. If they do that then we’ve seen throughout that winning run that the Chiefs have more than enough on offense to get the job done here.

Betting

I think this is a good opportunity for the under to land. Denver Broncos aren’t a side who are suddenly going to launch big play after big play but they will look to soak up much of the clock and keep this Chiefs offense off the field for as long as possible. It might be that Andy Reid doesn’t play his starters for the entire match anyway with the likelihood of a match next week so even if Kansas City get going early on the Broncos should be able to keep things tight in the second half of proceedings.

The Broncos defence has generally been in decent enough order this season and they only conceded 21 points in the reverse meeting between the two sides. I don’t expect this stuttering Broncos offense to trouble the scorers too often so the 45.5 point line for this match looks a little on the high side to me, especially if Kansas City get a couple of scores in front and save themselves for next week which is hugely likely to happen.
