The second half of the Divisional Round double header in the NFL 2021 Playoffs on Saturday evening sees the number one seed in the NFC joining the fray when the Green Bay Packers play host to the San Francisco 49ers.
The Packers know that if they win this match they will be hosting the NFC Championship final next week whereas the 49ers will head on the road to Tampa Bay or Los Angeles if they are able to get the victory here.
Green Bay Packers
This will be the second season in succession that the NFC has gone through the Green Bay Packers. They didn’t managed to secure a place at the Super Bowl last term so that will be their initial aim this time around. They haven’t been quite as dominant this term but they have still been perfectly good enough. One issue they might have when they get to the playoffs is they come up against an elite side whereas for much of the season they have weak opponents being in the NFC North.
Aaron Rodgers has once again been playing to MVP level this term even though he has been playing injured but the underrated heroes of this Green Bay side are the running backs and the pass rushers. They have given Rodgers the freedom to just control the clock and steadily lead his team down the field without having to force the pace. Their defence is sure to be tested here, as is the offensive line but if they can pick up where they left off when the regular season mattered then they have every chance here.

San Francisco 49ers
There is a school of thought that going on the road in the playoffs is not an easy thing to do but the San Francisco 49ers have already won one match on their travels and now they will attempt to knock off the number one seed on their own patch. There are one or two signs appearing that this side are getting into a similar position to the one which reached the Super Bowl a few seasons ago. This is the acid test of that theory but if they win here they could be very tough to stop.
The 49ers are running the ball about as well as anyone in the playoffs and that is one of the things you have to do in order to win matches of this sort on the road. The other thing they are doing is getting pressure on the opposing quarterback and if their defence can come up with a turnover or two here it would be massive for San Francisco. That will mean Jimmy G then only needs to play a steady and clean game rather than the risks he would need to take if this turns into a shootout.
Betting
I think this will be a compelling Divisional Round match. The Green Bay Packers are hard to beat at Lambeau Field but if there is a team who can go there and do it then it is probably the San Francisco 49ers. I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if the San Francisco 49ers were to win this match because Green Bay rested a lot of their starters against the Detroit Lions in their final regular season game and then they had the bye last week so it is around three weeks since the Packers had a competitive hit.
I’m not going to bet on the match though because I don’t really want to take the Green Bay Packers on so the bet I like is for Deebo Samuel to score a touchdown. He is going to be heavily involved in this match both in the running game and out of the backfield in the passing downs as well. He took the Dallas defence to the cleaners last week so he shouldn’t be out of scoring potential in this match. It is going to be a cold night at Lambeau so running the ball will be the order of the day. Samuel’s power runs can set him up for a trip to the end zone at some point.
