NFL 2021 – Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ New England Patriots Tips and Betting Preview

The final match of a busy Sunday in the NFL is a big night for Tom Brady as the legendary quarterback returns to the Gillette Stadium for the first time when he takes his Tampa Bay Buccaneers to face his former team New England Patriots.

The Buccaneers have begun the defence of their title with two wins and a defeat while the Patriots have a win and a couple of losses on their record so around the Tom Brady fanfare there is actually a pretty important match to take place.

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots will get a reminder of the good times in this match and they might well need it because although they are 1-2 for the season, their win came over the New York Jets and with all due respect the Jets aren’t doing a whole lot to make that win look much. What is a surprise is that the Patriots have been beaten in both their home matches this term so they will probably be feeling a little bit of pressure heading into this one.

It doesn’t really need anyone to tell them that their offense is the problem. Mac Jones is still learning the position at this level and he doesn’t have much in the way of receiving options to play with while teams are bunching up on the run against them. Where New England are competitive is in defence and they’ll need to be at their very best to keep their rookie quarterback in the game here as they take on one of the most powerful offenses in the league.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Things looked to be going smoothly in their defence of the title for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but then they ran into a rampant Los Angeles Rams last week which saw their winning run coming to an end. They will be looking to kick off another tidy spell of form on the road on a night where they quarterback is going to have the spotlight on him, even more so given that former Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski has been ruled out of this match.

The Buccaneers offense has been in fine form this season but even a unit as powerful as theirs is will need to play well to dominate them. That said, if anyone is going to know the holes and the weaknesses of it then Tom Brady is likely to be the man. He is missing one or two receivers though which might hamper him a little. The onus will also be on the Tampa defence to make sure that the offensive struggles of the Patriots continues.

Betting

There is clearly going to be a lot of emotion involved in this game and in truth those are not the sort of encounters I particularly like getting involved in but when they come along you often find the under lands more than the over. Brady might know how to get the better of the New England Patriots defence but his former coach Bill Belichick will know how to deal with and he is a master of shutting down explosive offenses which makes this a tactically intriguing match.

There are one or two too many doubts and questions over the Mac Jones led offense for me to side with the Patriots, although I readily accept it is a big handicap they are in receipt of but then there is just way too much attention on Brady for me to really like the Buccaneers. I’m sure the legendary quarterback will do his best to treat this as a normal game but it won’t be. I think the best bet is to ignore the outcome and take the under 49.5pts. All things being equal I don’t envisage much in the way of New England scoring and it might just be that if given the chance Brady just wants to win rather than rub his former team into the ground.
