NFL 2021 – Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Philadelphia Eagles Tips and Betting Preview

Week 6 of the NFL begins with another Thursday Night Football which this week sees the NFC in focus as the Philadelphia Eagles take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a match which is going to have an impact in the season of both sides.

The Buccaneers have already announced themselves as big contenders in the NFC as they bid to defend their title while the Eagles have stumbled out of the starting gates and could see Dallas Cowboys fly into the distance in the NFC East if they lose here.

Philadelphia Eagles

It goes without saying that this hasn’t been the start to the season that the Philadelphia Eagles will have wanted. Admittedly this is a bit of a transition campaign for them under Jalen Hurts but Eagles fans do not take mediocrity very well so they can’t carry a losing record around with them for too long, particularly with the Cowboys looking so good. Philadelphia do come in here off the back of a win though, which was important with this being a short week, and another here would certainly boost spirits.

If they are going to get that then clearly their defence is going to need to come to the party. Their secondary is going to be tested to the full here so that part of their team needs to stand up. They are going to need a big game from Hurts too because the Eagles go up against the best run defence in the league in this match. They do get to target a weak secondary here but that won’t count for much if Hurts does not have a good game.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are looking every bit the side which won the Super Bowl last season in terms of their offense. Their defence, at least against the run, is standing up to the job and their offense looks supreme. We keep on waiting for age to catch up with Tom Brady but there is still no sign of it happening. He is passing like he’s in his twenties rather than his forties and his receivers are certainly enjoying the action coming their way.

There is a concern over the Bucs’ secondary but that is only because of injuries. They are starting to get to the quarterback a bit more which is going to help the secondary and they take on a quarterback who can use his legs but isn’t like a Kyler Murray or Lamar Jackson for mobility. It would be asking a lot for the Bucs defence to deliver a flawless performance with the injuries they have and with this being a short week but if they can slow down the Eagles offense enough that should be all that is needed for them to win this one.

Betting

I’m expecting to see plenty of points in this Thursday Night game. It looks like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense is going to power over most sides in the league but there is enough of a deep ball threat in the Philadelphia Eagles, who are going to have to get this done through the air given the strength of the Tampa run defence, to see them put points on the board relatively quickly as well. That offers up the potential for plenty of points.

Whether this turns into a shootout or a one-sided Tampa Bay win I’m not sure. I would imagine it would be the latter but the Eagles have put up 21 points on decent defences against Dallas and Carolina already this season so there is enough to think that on a short week at home they’ll contribute strongly to this game. That all makes me think that over 52.5 points is likely to land for us over the course of this one.
