NFL 2021 – Washington Football Team @ Dallas Cowboys Tips and Betting Preview

As is always the case, another Sunday in the NFL 2021 season concludes with the Sunday Night Football which this week could see the Dallas Cowboys securing the NFC East title when they host divisional rivals Washington Football Team.

It might be that the Cowboys have already won the division earlier in the day if the Philadelphia Eagles are beaten by the New York Giants, but on the assumption that doesn’t happen then a win here will secure it for them. Washington won’t make it easy for them because they are chasing a wildcard spot themselves and need to win out to have a chance of it.

Dallas Cowboys

There was a bit of a mid-season wobble for the Dallas Cowboys around the time that Dak Prescott was out injured and him coming back and getting up to speed, but they have won their last three matches to take their record to 10-4 for the season. That has them as the number two seeds in the NFC at present so if they do win here and secure the division it will set them up for a crack at chasing down the Green Bay Packers to try and get the number one seeding.

You can argue that the Cowboys haven’t really faced anything in this three game winning burst but any time a team wins three road matches in succession they deserve some credit. They have largely done it through their defence having conceded just 43 points in total in those games, which is some effort to be fair, led by the incredibly impressive Micah Parsons. If the offense comes back to the party on home turf the Cowboys are going to be hard to beat.

Washington Football Team

A few weeks ago the Washington Football Team were on a four match win streak which took them to 6-6 for their season and they had their eyes on the NFC East division title. They then ran into the Dallas Cowboys and lost and then followed that up with a defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles that was delayed because of their Covid-19 issues. That loss ended their hopes of winning the division and by taking 48 hours off their recovery time it probably hasn’t done them any favours here.

The Washington offense was beginning to cook towards the end of that winning streak that they went on but they have gone flat again in the last couple of weeks and if they are to reverse fortunes with the Cowboys then that unit has to stand up and be counted. The Washington defence is usually their strength but it hasn’t really fired this season but their hopes in this match will probably boil down to who they can activate from the Covid-19 list.

Betting

I’m not going to get too involved in this match. I expect Dallas Cowboys to win but they might ease up if they have already won the division before they step onto the field here. The other reason why I don’t want to get too involved is we don’t know which personnel will be available to the Washington Football Team and who won’t. We do know they are on a short week though so it is hard to be too enthusiastic about the visitors in this one.

I’ll take a slightly different bet to normal and go with CeeDee Lamb to have more than 5.5 receptions. He is one of Dak’s favourite targets and has covered this line in all three matches he has played since he missed the match against the Raiders on Thanksgiving. They were all in winning efforts too so it wouldn’t make a difference if the Cowboys get in front early. He is a key cog in the Dallas passing game and regardless of what happens throughout the match I think we’ll see Lamb catch at least six passes.

Back C.Lamb – Over 5.5 receptions for a 3/10 stake at 2.10 with Bet365
