Week 6 of the NFL 2022 season concludes with the Monday Night Football which this week heads to the SoFi Stadium for the AFC West clash between the Los Angeles Chargers and the Denver Broncos for what is a huge game for both teams.
The Kansas City Chiefs have opened the door to these two with their loss on Sunday and both will be eager to take up their gift. I think it is fair to say we haven’t seen the best of either of these teams so they will be motivated to deliver on their promise.
Los Angeles Chargers
Heading into the season the Los Angeles Chargers were fancied by a lot of judges for a Super Bowl run. I was one of those but we are still waiting for the real Chargers to come to the party. Injuries on both sides of the ball haven’t helped them but we are slowly seeing them move through the gears and a win here will have them just half a match behind the Kansas City Chiefs in what is fast becoming a compelling race for the AFC West title.
The Chargers come into the match off the back of their best performance against the Cleveland Browns last week where they were more balanced on offense with the run game starting to come to the party. They haven’t hit their stride defensively yet but when that happens then they are going to live up to the pre-season expectation. A win here will put them 2-1 in the division and they will be in a position to pounce over the remaining two-thirds of the season.

Denver Broncos
There was a lot of optimism around the Denver Broncos heading into the season as well. Many people though they had a Super Bowl roster last term which just needed an elite quarterback to take it to the big dance. They have got that quarterback in the form of Russell Wilson but we really are waiting for the Broncos offense to catch fire. If anything they are getting worse and their loss to the Indianapolis Colts and the boring nature of the game has done nothing to ease the pressure on all involved.
The Broncos have played five matches and in only one of them have they scored more than 16 points and they ended up losing that game. They have big issues in the run game but Russell Wilson wasn’t brought in to hand the ball off to running backs so they really need to sort the passing game out and get it up and running as quickly as possible. The other issue Denver have going into this match is one or two defenders are going to be missing and it has been their defence holding them up this term.
Betting
I’m a little surprised that we are getting the solid price we are on the Los Angeles Chargers to cover just 3.5 points in this match. I believe these two teams are going in opposite directions and other than having the extended week to work on things I don’t really see too many positives in the Denver Broncos right now. Their offense has stalled and doesn’t look to be improving and now significant injuries are beginning to appear to their defence.
Denver have lost both of their away games this season and I don’t think losses at the Seattle Seahawks or the Las Vegas Raiders look particularly good. Los Angeles seem to be getting better by the week and they did a bit of a job on the Broncos at SoFi last season. The bolts should be able to run the ball against this Denver defence with key run blocker Josey Jewell missing here and that will open up the pockets for Justin Herbert to do his thing and therefore I expect the Chargers to put up too many points for this stuttering Denver offense.
