NFL 2022 – Green Bay Packers @ Philadelphia Eagles Tips and Betting Preview

As always another NFL Sunday concludes with the Sunday Night Football, which this week sees the leading team in the league in action when the Philadelphia Eagles play host to the Green Bay Packers in an intriguing clash.

The Eagles are currently the best team in the NFL but that mantle was more expected to be wrapped around the heads of the Green Bay Packers, however their season has been little short of a write off so far.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles are now 9-1 for the season but the Dallas Cowboys aren’t going away in the race for the NFC East title so they know they have to keep on winning to keep them a reasonable length away from them. You would have to say that the Eagles come into this match off a couple of below par performances but I guess that is only inevitable as it must be hard to maintain intensity and focus when you are close to achieving your initial goals.

The Eagles might have the ideal primetime opponent here, one which just the name alone will ensure they play well. Philadelphia should be able to exploit Green Bay on the ground through their running options but this Green Bay side made Ryan Tannehill look like Patrick Mahomes last week so they might get the better of them through the air too. Their own defence needs to stand up in this one as the Green Bay offense remains capable.

Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers head to Philadelphia having incredibly lost six of their last seven matches. That means they are 4-7 for the season and the win in among all that was only in overtime, although to be fair it does look a good one with the Dallas Cowboys flying now. I think they have played better than their performances suggest but while we were used to them coming up with the goods on both sides of the ball in the clutch moments in the past, that just isn’t quite happening this season.

It will be interesting to see if the Packers opt to bring their running game to the party here against a rushing defence that leaks a lot of yards. You wouldn’t think even Aaron Rodgers can get the job done through the air without some help from the ground game. He’ll also need some help from his defence as well because the last thing the Packers need with them struggling to put points on the board is for this to become a shootout.

Betting

I’m looking forward to this game from a style and entertainment point of view but betting wise I’m a little unsure because in the back of the mind there is the sense that Aaron Rodgers and the Packers will surely convert their plays into points at some point but at the same time we are waiting for the Philadelphia Eagles to return to the powerful side they were in the opening eight weeks and if that happens here they could run riot.

I’ll play safe though and just go with a player bet. It is hard to see the Eagles not being in the game throughout, and potentially in front for the most part, so I’ll take Miles Sanders to cover his rushing yards line which is 67.5 yards. Green Bay are one of the worst defences in the league for defending the run and you’ve got to think that Philadelphia will exploit that. Sanders doesn’t always get the carries that he should do but with Green Bay coughing up 135 yards per game on the ground on average he should see plenty of work here. Sanders has had more than 15 carries four times this season and covered this line each time. In the last two weeks he has only had 25 carries combined and Philly have lost one and laboured to a win in the other. I expect to see Sanders with more than 15 carries and needing just over four yards per carry on average to cover his line I’m happy to take the over.
