NFL 2022 – Kansas City Chiefs @ Los Angeles Chargers Tips and Betting Preview

There has been a chance to the schedule for the Sunday Night Football in the NFL 2022 season this week. We were meant to have the AFC North clash between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals but that has been moved and we now get to see the Los Angeles Chargers hosting the Kansas City Chiefs.

This is a big match in the AFC West because the Kansas City Chiefs will go 3.5 games clear of the Los Angeles Chargers with a win and with matches running out on the regular season that is a position in which the Chargers will be keen to avoid.

Los Angeles Chargers

After beginning their campaign with two defeats in their opening three matches, the well-fancied Los Angeles Chargers had things back on track with three straight wins to sit 4-2 for their season but two defeats in their last three have left them in a position where they are under a fair bit of pressure in this match. You would think the chances of winning the division will disappear with a defeat in this match but they will also be fighting just to secure a wildcard spot.

To be fair to the Chargers, their two most recent defeats were against the Seattle Seahawks who are having a good season and the San Francisco 49ers who are better than their overall record suggests. The problem is the Chiefs are also a top side so the Bolts will have to raise it to come out on top here. Their defence is going to need to stand up to a lot of scrutiny and pressure in this match but if they can do that then the Chargers are competent enough on offense to be competitive even with their injuries.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs might not have been making the shockwaves they have in recent seasons this term but they still go into this match with a 7-2 record and well in control of their own destiny. Three of those wins have been by a field goal or less so they haven’t been as emphatic as we would usually expect but you can never be too critical of a team who are winning matches. You would expect them to look to build up a head of steam from here on in though.

The Chiefs are still an offensive force but without Tyreeq Hill there is a different look about the way their offense plays. It means there is more of a structured look to proceedings which isn’t as flashy. It does mean their defence isn’t on the field for as long which is allowing them to restrict the points they concede so it isn’t always a bad thing. That defence is likely to be tested here and it will be interesting to see how it holds up.

Betting

The Kansas City Chiefs look worthy favourites for this match but it appears that Keenan Allen and Mike Williams are going to suit up and be involved here so covering a 5.5 point spread in what might quickly turn into a shootout is anything but guaranteed, especially if Justin Herbert plays some of his best stuff. I wouldn’t want to take the Chargers because if they are slightly off it they could get swamped so I’ll head to the side markets for this one.

Jerick McKinnon is seeing a lot of action for the Kansas City Chiefs and his rushing and receiving yards line looks very low at 37.5. He has covered this in receiving yards alone in the last two weeks and in all has covered it in four of his last five outings. It might be significant in that the one he didn’t cover it was when the Chiefs were beaten but I don’t see Los Angeles dominating this match like the Buffalo Bills did in that game. McKinnon has caught 12 passes in the last two weeks and anything like that production in the passing game and he should cover this in receiving yards again but he’s likely to get some carries too which can confirm the deal.
