The NFL is back in London on Sunday where for the first time in history two teams with a winning record with descend on the English capital as the Green Bay Packers take a home game away from Lambeau Field to face the New York Giants.
Both teams sit 3-1 for the season so whoever wins this match will be very nicely positioned for a crack at their division and everything that comes with it. The loser won’t be in a terrible position so both sides can go overseas and look to entertain.
Green Bay Packers
Packers fans could be forgiven for having a bit of déjà vu as for the second season in succession they opened their campaign with a less than convincing display but soon build on it and found their feet to get up to speed and swiftly get themselves into a position where they are one of the teams to beat this term. I wouldn’t say the Packers are feared by opponents as much as in the past just yet but even though they haven’t been a powerful juggernaut, they are winning matches.
That opening loss came against the Minnesota Vikings when neither side of the ball really turned up for them. Since then they have won their last three matches with their defence generally getting the job done while Aaron Rodgers builds a familiarity with a new set of receivers. There were signs last week that those partnerships are beginning to flourish which bodes very well for the Cheeseheads both here and in the matches to come.

New York Giants
I don’t think too many people would be surprised that the Green Bay Packers are 3-1 for the season but less judges would have expected the New York Giants to be in that position. You could put forward the argument that they haven’t really beaten anything but after a couple of campaigns where picking up wins looked very difficult, any win is an acceptable achievement. The loss was to the Dallas Cowboys which could be significant in the NFC East down the line.
Unlike the Packers, the Giants have been to London before so a number of their personnel will know what it is all about. The Giants’ defence has been good this term. In their three wins they have restricted their opponents to 20 points or less but the issue they might encounter going forward is that they are yet to put up more than 21 points themselves. In a division with two potent offenses that might not be a statistic that takes them where they would like to go.
Betting
I think this could be a tough assignment for the New York Giants. I say that because although the Green Bay Packers defence has given up a few rushing yards more than they would want to this season, the Giants have a receiving core who are bashed up so the Packers will know full well that if they can contain Saquon Barkley and force Daniel Jones to win the game in the air that they are going to have a very good chance of running out comfortable winners.
The Giants’ best chance of remaining close in this one is to hide behind their defence but there were signs last week of the Packers’ offense coming good and Aaron Rodgers has challenged them to keep on improving. They have a platform to show the world that they are in good nick and I expect Rodgers to find a way to pick the New York defence apart. I’m a little surprised that the Packers are only giving up 7.5pts in this one but I expect them to cover it.
