NFL 2022 Playoffs – Miami Dolphins @ Buffalo Bills Tips and Betting Preview

There are two divisional matches in the NFL 2022 Playoffs on Sunday as the Super Wildcard weekend continues. The first of them comes in the opening game of the three as AFC East rivals Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins clash.

The Bills won the AFC East and will be looking to use that to their advantage against a Dolphins team who are back in the playoffs once again but who limped into them and are massively impacted by injuries heading in.

Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills were going along brilliantly this season and looking like potentially Super Bowl champions in their own right but then the horrible incident with Damar Hamlin happened and now you sense they are playing for much more than just themselves. We often see teams take inspiration from teammates who get injured but the Hamlin situation hit so deep and there is no doubt the Bills will be eager to win for him.

One of the reasons why Buffalo are considered dangers for the Super Bowl is the relentless way their offense keeps on coming at teams. There is a bit more of a vulnerability about them since the injury to Von Miller but they are still winning matches. They have won their last seven matches and are generally very good on their own patch. The Bills have put up more than 30 points in their last three outings and if they do that again here you would think they would have more than enough to come through here.

Miami Dolphins

At one stage this season the Miami Dolphins were 8-3 for their year and on top of the list in the AFC East but then they ran into a five-match losing streak and in the end had to win their final game of the season at home to the New York Jets last week just to make it into the postseason as a wildcard. To their credit they snapped that poor run and got the win they needed although even the strongest Miami fan would struggle to suggest there was anything convincing about it.

One of the problems the Dolphins have had is the continued concussion issues for their quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and they will keep him out of this match. Backup Teddy Bridgewater is out injured as well so Miami are going to start their playoff push with third choice Skylar Thompson starting his first postseason game. That is going to put a lot of pressure on their defence and running game to come up with the goods and in truth with the exception of a good defensive performance last week, there has been little to suggest that is arriving.

Betting

I’m not one for betting huge spreads in the postseason but I’m going to do it on this occasion because I’m not sure the 13.5 that Miami Dolphins are getting is going to be enough here. We’ve already seen the number two seeds in the NFC cruise through by a large margin and their opponents were in buoyant mood with their number one quarterback playing. The Dolphins are neither. They look bang out of touch and are having to rely on a third choice quarterback.

Buffalo Bills are in a good place here. They are a winning machine, especially at home and while there are holes in this defence it is unlikely that Skylar Thompson will be the man to find them. Miami won a do or die match last week but they never scored a touchdown and that followed five defeats on the trot. If the Bills get up early in front of a huge home crowd I expect them to power away from the Dolphins.
