The two places at Super Bowl 57 will be secured on Sunday when the NFL Championship matches take place. The action begins in the NFC where the top two teams in the Conference meet as the Philadelphia Eagles host the San Francisco 49ers.
This looks like being a classic contest between two teams who have both been to the Super Bowl in recent years and who will be eager to get back there. Both look ideally suited to the postseason test so the NFC title should be won and lost in style.
Philadelphia Eagles
There was a stage where the perfect season looked on for the Philadelphia Eagles. That went down but they have still only lost three times all campaign. Those losses came when quarterback Jalen Hurts was injured but when he has been in the side the Eagles have looked every bit a Super Bowl contending team. With that in mind, Philadelphia will be delighted that he is fit for this match and will hope he can inspire the team to the big dance.
It isn’t all about Hurts for the Eagles though. While his running game is a massive threat, they have Miles Sanders in great touch, a passing game which can take teams apart when they need to use it and a defence which has stood up to pretty much every test which has come through way this season. When you throw home advantage into the pot as well the Eagles have a lot going for them, but that offense is going to face a severe test here and will need to rise to the challenge.

San Francisco 49ers
The form team in the NFC heading into the playoffs were the San Francisco 49ers and we have seen why during the postseason. Much like their opponents in this match they can win games on the ground and through the air and the pressure is taken off the offense by the best defence in the league. It means that they can go through all the simple plays which in turn open up all the big plays and it is quite a combination.
This is the first time the 49ers will have gone on the road this postseason. Their wins over the Seattle Seahawks and the Dallas Cowboys were convincing but they were at home and now Brock Purdy is going to have to go on the road and get the job done. You would imagine that the 49er defence is going to need to provide a little help along the way here but against a dynamic Eagles offense there is no guarantee of that.
Betting
This is a NFC Championship game which could go either way. I certainly don’t expect it to be decided by too much. My gut feeling is that San Francisco 49ers are the better team but I’m a little concerned about the noises coming out about a calf injury to Christian McCaffrey. I would have expected San Francisco to use their ground game to control the clock and keep Jalen Hurts and co off the field.
If the 49ers do go in front then Philadelphia might well need to use their aerial offense a lot more than they did last week which means A.J. Brown could be a key man in the game. He has a receiving line of 70.5 yards which looks on the low side. There is a consensus that you don’t throw on this 49ers side but elite receivers still get the job done against them. DK Metcalf went for 136 yards two weeks ago and CeeDee Lamb went for 117 yards last week. Brown generally averages 17 ypc this season so five catches should sail over this line and you’ve got to think in a game of this magnitude he’ll get at least that many.
