The latest week of NFL 2023 action concludes in Nevada with the Monday Night Football which pits the Las Vegas Raiders up against the Green Bay Packers in one of the more low profile MNFs of the campaign to date.
These two sides have stumbled out of the starting blocks this season and both need to win in order to position themselves closer to where they want to be as we head towards the end of the opening third of the campaign.
Las Vegas Raiders
When the Las Vegas Raiders opened up their campaign with a win there was a little more optimism around the place but three successive defeats since then have left them at a bit of a crossroads and a defeat here would leave them facing a real uphill battle to be competitive in terms of a playoff spot this season. Two of those defeats were on the road which is allowable to an extent but ultimately were they to go 1-4 repercussions would likely follow.
It isn’t like the Raiders have been blown away in the majority of their games. They were in Buffalo but they won’t be the only team to suffer that fate this season but in the other two matches they were within a touchdown of getting something from the game. They need to find a groove on offense and the likely availability of Davante Adams against his former team will help with that. They kept Los Angeles Chargers to 24 points last week so you would imagine the defence will do their bit here if the offense can help out.

Green Bay Packers
There was a lot of doom and gloom predicted for the Green Bay Packers this season but two wins from their opening three matches quietened down that sort of noise. It has come back again after the ease with which the Detroit Lions got the better of them last week but if there is a positive from that loss it was that it came on the Thursday night so they have had slightly more time than usual to prepare for this latest contest.
The big issue for Green Bay is the injuries they have sustained on defence. They were going to need to rely on their defence more this term anyway when you consider that they have lost so many offensive weapons but the devastation injuries are causing really came home to roost last week. Offensively they are heavily reliant on their two running backs but slowly Jordan Love is getting some passing weapons back which could help.
Betting
I can’t say I’m hugely enamoured by either of these two sides. I think they both have limitations and flaws and that might make for plenty of drama in the game. When assessing it from a betting point of view I think we have two fairly even sides on show here so the difference could well be how long Green Bay Packers have had to prepare for this match. That has been 11 days which has allowed them to get some injured players back, particularly on the offensive line.
That is crucial for two reasons. Firstly, it gives them a chance to keep Maxx Crosby at bay a little and secondly it will open up the holes for the Green Bay running backs to get through the line of scrimmage. With Christian Watson back and making a positive impression against Detroit last time out there is enough to suggest we’ll see a better version of the Packers. Vegas get Jimmy G back for this match but he delivered three picks in his last match. Long-term I don’t really like either of these sides but in what is a 50:50 looking game with an edge to the Packers with that preparation time I’ll side with the visitors at odds against.
