NFL 2024 – Dallas Cowboys @ Pittsburgh Steelers Tips and Betting Preview

The closing match of the NFL on Sunday as always comes in the Sunday Night Football for a match which is one of the longest staging in history as the Pittsburgh Steelers go up against the Dallas Cowboys at Acrisure Stadium.

The Steelers have made a positive start to the campaign and will be looking for a primetime win to continue to set the pace in the AFC North. It hasn’t gone to plan for the Cowboys thus far but this is a chance for them to show their worth.

Pittsburgh Steelers

This felt like a season which could go either way for the Pittsburgh Steelers heading into it. They were under a new quarterback who would have questions to answer regardless of whether it was Justin Fields or Russell Wilson which was given the starting berth, and they were in a division which was expected to be exceptionally strong this term. That might still be the case but right now the Steelers are setting the pace in it after three wins in their opening four matches and a home primetime win here would have them sitting very pretty.

Last week was the first time that they had conceded more than 10 points in a match and that might be significant because while they won their opening three matches, their offense didn’t really impress like a top side would. They scored 18 points, 13 and 20 and didn’t really face an elite defence with the exception of Denver Broncos who are solid enough. If Justin Fields can have a night out here though you suspect the Steelers will be hard to beat.

Dallas Cowboys

There were one or two doubts around the Dallas Cowboys heading into the season as well, largely down to the fact that the Dak Prescott contract issue took so long to resolve but also because of the way last season ended so tamely in the playoffs. It appeared as though those fears were unwarranted when the Cowboys walloped the Cleveland Browns in week one but that form hasn’t been franked and it was as good as it got for the Cowboys so far.

Since then, they have been taken apart by the New Orleans Saints and edged out on the scoreboard by the Baltimore Ravens, although in reality that match was as one-sided as it comes. Dallas did get things back on the straight and narrow last week with a win over the New York Giants and have had the long week to sort some issues out but they are without gun defender Micah Parsons for this match and that will present its own problems. You suspect Dallas will need to win this on offense but against this Pittsburgh defence that could be easier said than done.

Betting

It is hard to go against the Pittsburgh Steelers in this match. Their defence is tough as teak and with the Dallas Cowboys struggling with the run and having a few injuries not helping them I expect the Steelers to get back to winning ways here and there is a chance this could get nasty for the Cowboys if the offensive line doesn’t hold up for Dak Prescott. Pittsburgh are masters at rushing the quarterback and if Dallas can’t establish the run again the home defence will go quarterback hunting.

On the other side of the ball Demarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons are massive losses to a defence which was getting gashed by the run even with them in it and with the Pittsburgh ground game in decent order and Justin Fields starting to feel comfortable with the play book and getting better by the week it would be a surprise if the Steelers offense doesn’t get the job done both with their physicality and improving personnel. This just feels like a bad matchup at the wrong time for Dallas.
