When we have seen the NFC entrant to the Super Bowl confirmed, it will be the turn of the AFC champions to be crowned when the NFL 2024 Playoffs heads to Arrowhead Stadium for a clash between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills.
These two are the top two seeds in the Conference but only one of them will head to New Orleans in a fortnight to take on either Philadelphia Eagles or the Washington Commanders. Two of the best quarterbacks in the game go at it here in what should be a great AFC title decider.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs have been on cruise control throughout the entire campaign and even last week you never really got the impression that the Houston Texans were going to have enough ammunition to get the job done against them. That isn’t the case here though. The Chiefs only lost one regular season game that mattered, with their starters involved, and that came against the Buffalo Bills, albeit that was in Buffalo, so Kansas City will be wary because of that.
The Chiefs have won a lot of close matches this term. There are two sides to that coin. They can handle the pressure of crunch time in the fourth quarter but if you want to be against them you will suggest that run can’t go on forever. The positive is that the Chiefs defence has performed all season and we know from this incredible run of playoff campaigns that they are embarking on that when this time of year comes along the offense gets the job done regardless of the situation or what might have gone before it.

Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills have gone about their season in similar fashion to the Kansas City Chiefs, although they had to play their best stuff for slightly longer in the regular campaign and have had the extra postseason match heading in here. They were far too good for the Denver Broncos, as I think many expected them to be, and then came out on top in a match against the Baltimore Ravens where you could argue the Ravens beat themselves but that isn’t an issue the Bills have to worry about.
We know all about the Bills’ offense and the strengths that they have but you sense if they are going to come out on top again then it will be their defence that if not wins the game for them, certainly sets it up for them. In that regular season meeting that defence kept the Chiefs to 21 points. They could do with that sort of level here to give Josh Allen the chance to go on the road and win the game. Buffalo have won three of their last four against the Chiefs but they have all been in the regular season.
Betting
I do think we are in for a cracking contest here but I just can’t go against the Kansas City Chiefs at this stage of the season, especially on home turf. Buffalo Bills have won three of the last four but they have all been in the regular campaign and in fact, Kansas City have won the last three postseason meetings between the two. Buffalo are on a run of seven straight defeats on the road in January and that has to be a major concern.
By and large the Bills are winning matches via dominating the turnover count. Even last week they were able to pick Lamar Jackson off a couple of times to turn the momentum on its head but Kansas City haven’t turned the ball over in their last eight matches so that might not be a route to success that the Bills can rely on either. Whichever way you look at this one it looks close and whoever holds their nerve are most likely to come out on top. There are years of history that tells us that is likely to be the home side.
