NFL 2025 – Dallas Cowboys @ Washington Commanders Tips and Betting Preview

We have a triple header of NFL 2025 action on Christmas Day and it all gets underway with an NFC East clash between the Washington Commanders and the Dallas Cowboys with holiday pride all that is at stake here.

This has been a poor season for both of these teams and they are just playing out the campaign from here on in but division pride is a thing and this is a chance for a team to get one over a rival and feel a little better heading into next season.

Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders have a 4-11 record after their defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles last week which now means that they have lost nine of their last 10 matches so it is hard to suggest that they have done anything other than down tools the longer the campaign has gone on. To be fair to the Commanders, they were competitive for a while against the Eagles last week but ultimately a side bashed up with key injuries were found out. They’ll need better if they are to win this one.

The Commanders have that real problem of a defence which isn’t really able to stop teams and an offense which has had so many injuries that it is struggling to impose itself on the opposition and that is never a workable combination. The injuries got worse for Washington against Philadelphia when they lost Marcus Mariota in that match and his status is unconfirmed which isn’t idealso the Commanders look very much up against it on a short week.

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys threatened to put a run together which might have secured a wildcard berth in the NFC but three defeats in succession have put paid to that idea and now they are all about getting as much from their last two games as they can that they can take into next season and attempt to finish with a flourish. You would think that being away on Christmas Day will motivate them to get the win and make the trip worthwhile but this is a team who have flattered to deceive too often this term.

The Dallas defence has disintegrated in the last three weeks. They have shipped at least 34 points in their last three matches and now they head on their travels on a short week so that is never an ideal situation. The one good thing for the Cowboys is they have plenty of power in their offense, even if it hasn’t been good enough to outscore the opposition. To be fair to them, Detroit and Los Angeles Chargers are hard games at the best of times so they might have a weaker opposition here.

Betting

Those who have followed us on Thursday nights this season will know that I am no fan of taking road teams on the short week, especially when the home side they go up against have had an extra 18 hours to recover and prepare, but there are exceptions to every rule and I think this is one such occasion as I like the Dallas Cowboys here. It appears likely that the Washington Commanders will be down to their third string quarterback Josh Johnson.

This Washington defence has been easily exposed this season, especially by running backs and Dallas should be able to ride a decent one if Javonte Williams suits up and although the Dallas defence seems to have gone awol, it remains to be seen whether a third choice quarterback can expose it. To be fair to that defence, they have only struggled in the last three weeks and two of those matches were against potent offenses in Detroit and Los Angeles Chargers. The Washington pass rush has been decimated so Dak Prescott should have all the time he needs to cause havoc here and so Dallas to cover a touchdown looks a fair bet to me.
