NFL 2025 Playoffs – Buffalo Bills @ Jacksonville Jaguars Tips and Betting Preview

The NFL 2025 Playoffs continue on Sunday night when three more Wildcard Round matches take place and the triple header begins with the AFC South champions Jacksonville Jaguars going up against the Buffalo Bills.

The Jaguars made it into the postseason as the number three seeds and they face off against the six seeds here. Jacksonville will be looking for a rare playoff win while Buffalo will be aiming to start off another run which they hope will finally end at the Super Bowl.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars had an incredible regular season which took them to a 13-4 record and the AFC South title but if there is a slight drawback it is that they only won the division on the final day of the campaign and therefore never had the opportunity to rest players last week that some teams in this Wildcard Round had the opportunity to do. Whether that goes against them here remains to be seen but they are a team who come into the playoffs very hot indeed.

The Jaguars have won their last eight matches and in that run they have beaten some good teams and done it well. Their offense has been scoring points by the bucketload and their defence has shut down nearly every run game which it has faced, which is impressive when you consider that the likes of Jonathan Taylor is in their division. They go up against the rushing leader from the regular season here so you would think that the outcome of this match could be determined by that battle.

Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills missed out on winning their division this season but a 12-5 record is still more than acceptable, even if it means that they have to go on the road in their postseason opener. That might be a concern for the Bills because Josh Allen has never won a playoff match on his travels but the positive for Buffalo is that they knew their fate prior to last week so they were able to give Allen the day off all bar the opening snap to keep his appearance streak alive.

They still ran out easy winners against the New York Jets to highlight the depth that they have, although if this turns into a shootout, which it very well could with Jacksonville involved, then you wonder if enough receiving options will step up to allow Allen to go toe-to-toe with Trevor Lawrence. If they do then playoff experience could be the difference here, although to be fair it didn’t make much difference on Saturday so Buffalo need to be at their best to come out of this one with the win.

Tips

This is probably the most intriguing of all the matches this weekend and betting on it isn’t necessarily easy. Buffalo Bills probably have the bigger ceiling of the two sides but their road record in the postseason under Josh Allen is very poor, albeit that it is generally Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs who are beating them. Jacksonville haven’t been in the playoffs for a few years so I’m a little reluctant to get involved in the match outcome here.

The bet that I do like is for Josh Allen to pass for more than 227.5 yards. I am sure that the Bills would like to get James Cook into the game but you have got to respect the Jacksonville run defence and so it might be that Allen needs to do the bulk of the work to establish the run through the passing game. There is a game script which has Buffalo behind if their road record in the playoffs is anything to go by in which case they would have to pass the ball, as they would if this turns into a shootout. Allen is fresh as a daisy after sitting out all but one snap last week and whether the Bills win this or not, I think their quarterback will need to do plenty of passing the ball.
