NFL 2025 Playoffs – Green Bay Packers @ Chicago Bears Tips and Betting Preview

The oldest rivalry in the NFL will have another renewal this season as the NFL 2025 Playoffs continues when the Chicago Bears host the Green Bay Packers in an all-NFC North dustup in the wildcard round at Soldier Field.

The Bears won the division with the Packers in second place. Chicago will be looking to enforce their dominance over the Packers here but Green Bay will be out for causing the upset and getting themselves a step closer to the Super Bowl.

Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears were certainly expected to be a lot better than they were last season when they went into the campaign but whether many thought they would be good enough to win a hugely competitive NFC North division is less known, however they have really come alive in the latter three quarters of the year and in the end won the division with a week to spare to allow themselves the opportunity to manage their players last week to ensure they are as strong as they can be in this match.

The Bears have the two components you generally need to win playoff matches in the NFL these days, notably a defence which makes big plays when the need arises and a run game which can extend drives and manage the clock. That latter point is only really any use if the Bears get in front. The question is whether Caleb Williams can lead them to that position when he is making his postseason debut. If he can then with home advantage on top, the Bears look good here.

Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers were on course to challenge to win the NFC North up until around a month ago when the loss to the Denver Broncos didn’t just see them slip behind the Chicago Bears but came at a cost with the loss of Micah Parsons in the pass rush and they haven’t really been the same team since. They then went down to the Bears in overtime which pretty much ended their hopes of winning the division and have been battling injuries since then.

The good news for Green Bay is that they have their quarterback Jordan Love back for this match and he has a couple of receivers fit again. If there is a good thing about losing out on the division as early as they did it was that nobody of any importance had to suit up last week so there is no issue with freshness for the Packers. The big test here will be whether their run defence can step up to the plate. If it can and they can make Williams try and beat them in the passing game, experience might get them over the line.

Betting

We have a weather forecast for rain and possibly even snow during game time here so I’m expecting plenty of running the football in this one. It is largely the way the Chicago Bears go about their business and Green Bay generally run the ball a lot on the road. I do like the under in points but the 45.5 line probably doesn’t give us a defensive score or turnover sort of play so I’ll skip that and go with the game state of the running games dominating here for a bet.

That comes in the form of the receiving yards of Colston Loveland where the line automatically looks high when you consider he caught for 29 and 30 against Green Bay in the regular season. He has gone off with 94 and 91 yards in the last two weeks but Chicago have all of their receivers back here and the weather wasn’t a factor in those games. The San Francisco and Detroit defences were ravaged by injury too. He was 8-3 for the under to start the season prior to the receiver injuries the Bears had but with the likes of D.J. Moore, Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III all fit to go the targets should be shared more among them than the tight end. I like the under here.
