The second half of the double header to open up the final week of the NFL 2025 regular season on Saturday is a winner takes it all showdown in the NFC West when the San Francisco 49ers welcome the Seattle Seahawks with the division title and the number one seed in the Conference on the line.
The good thing for both of these teams is that whatever happens here their season will continue but the winners will not only be at home throughout their playoff existence but they get next week off so all the incentives for this one are huge.
San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers have been playing knockout football in terms of winning the division and the number one seed for two weeks and are still here to tell the tale. The 49ers have won their last two matches emphatically and they won’t care how they get the job done here, they know that if they win then they will be playing at Levi’s Stadium for the remainder of their season, however long that is, so they have a huge incentive here.
The 49ers have ridden a couple of key offensive injuries in the last few weeks and although their defence is massively depleted, there is a chance that they might get one of the missing cogs back which would certainly boost them. Even if that doesn’t happen, they have enough about them to turn this into a shootout and come out on the winning side as their offense has caught fire again under Brock Purdy. Any help from their defence will certainly be appreciated though.

Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks have been controlling the NFC West for much of the second half of the season. They have won 10 of their last 11 matches and if they make that 11 wins from 12 then they will be the ones with their feet up next week while those involved slug it out for the right to meet them. When you consider that this is their first season under a new coach and quarterback combination they have already gone brilliantly but a win here would be the icing on the cake.
The Seahawks have gone well with their defence this season but you do get the feeling that if they are going to win this match then the passing game will need to go well. Sam Darnold has all the tools that he needs to deliver the goods. He has an elite receiver, solid tight ends and more importantly he is facing a defence that is struggling to get to the quarterback so he should have all the time he needs to tear this secondary apart. That should make the Seahawks tough to beat.
Betting
We should be in for a cracking game here but for me even though they are away from home, all the aces in this particular battle are being held by the Seattle Seahawks and given that we can get them to cover less than a field goal I think they are the ones to be with here. There is a doubt over the credentials of Sam Darnold but he should only have to be acceptable in this match rather than special for the visitors to get the job done.
Seattle bring the second best offense to Levi’s Stadium with them and a heavily superior defence and those two facets generally get the job done in playoff football. This isn’t technically a playoff game but there is so much on the line that I expect it to be played like one. The Seattle defence is likely to be tested by this San Francisco offense but whatever that side of the ball does I expect the Seahawks offense to match and better. I expect the Seattle defence to put enough stops up for their team to get the job done in a cracking affair.
