NFL – Green Bay Packers at Minnesota Vikings Betting Preview

The final NFL match on Sunday is a real grudge match as arch rivals Minnesota Vikings and the Green Bay Packers meet in the Sunday Night Football at the US Bank Stadium. Both sides won their opening matches of the season last week so the winner of this one will be 2-0 and set up nicely for the campaign to come.

Minnesota Vikings

There was plenty of conjecture over the quarterback position heading into last week’s win over the Tennessee Titans with Shaun Hill getting the job off the back of the injury to Teddy Bridgewater but there is no such fuss this week as Sam Bradford has been confirmed as a starter for the Vikings here.

Much of the Vikings’ win was down to their defence not just for stopping the attacking threat of the Titans but also scoring points themselves with their only two touchdowns. If Bradford can bring some organisation and some quality to their offensive play then the Vikings can be that threat they were touted to be prior to Bridgewater’s demise.

Green Bay Packers

The Packers overcame something of a banana skin last week in Jacksonville and they did so with a varied offense with good, meaningful running from Eddie Lacy and the typical brilliance we come to expect from Aaron Rodgers. Jordy Nelson’s return gave the offense a lift as well so it was business as usual for the Pack.

If there is an area to improve it would be in the defence. Under Mike McCarthy the Packers have often sacrificed yards to try and get to the quarterback but that might be a risky play against such an underrated Minnesota offense here which adds an interesting dynamic to the game.

Betting

This should be a really good Sunday night game. Both sides are good to watch. The Packers rely on their wonderful quarterback but the Vikings have a standout defence to keep him honest so that particular battle will be great to watch.

With the news that Bradford will be at quarterback for the Vikings the odds have really come together and it will be almost 50/50 when the match starts and I wouldn’t disagree with that. I think this one will come down to a play here or a big play there and as such I don’t want to get involved in the match betting.

Matches between these two are generally higher scoring than they are expected to be. Whether that is because of the quality of Rodgers or the philosophy of sacrificing yards on defence from the Packers I’m not sure but four of the last five between the two have had more than 41pts which the line for this match is.

I’ve seen nothing to suggest that the pattern of matches between these two is about to suddenly change and with that in mind I’m happy to take the overs on the 41pts line.
