NFL – Houston Texans at New England Patriots Betting Preview

It is week three of the NFL season already and the action begins in Foxboro on Thursday night when the Houston Texans heads into town to face the New England Patriots in a game between two sides who have begun the season with a pair of wins.

Both sides will be eyeing up defences of their divisions this season and a home game or a bye in the playoffs and winning this game will already go a long way to achieving that aim.

New England Patriots

The Patriots have won both their matches so far this season but they haven’t been without their fair share of issues. They managed to stifle the threat of the Arizona Cardinals offense in their first match and were all over Miami last week but then suffered a second half slump and in the end only just held on.

The catalyst for that slump was the injury sustained by the backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and he is slated as questionable for this match and unlikely to start it remains to be seen how well the Patriots offense works especially with sides finding it hard to run on this Houston side.

Houston Texans

Just like New England, the Texans have won both their matches thus far although I’m sure their detractors would ask quite what it is that they have beaten. Nevertheless you have to play well to win matches on the NFL circuit and while they might have had two favourable opponents they haven’t done a lot wrong.

The strength of their defence means that Houston are always going to set up to be hard to beat and why wouldn’t they be? They are hard to score on and make you risk a big play to get anywhere against them while they are much safer on offense but in DeAndre Hopkins they have a potentially elite receiver if given the ammunition.

Betting

Usually I would be reluctant to go against the New England Patriots. Their coach Bill Belichick is a master of nullifying the threat of the opposition and taking advantage of that but when the strength of the opponent is their defence then that opportunity might be out of his hands.

I don’t expect Houston Texans to take too many risks in this match but I do expect them to be all over the inexperienced Jacoby Brissett at quarterback and while the Patriots have done well to come out with two narrow wins so far I think this one could be a task too far for them. I’m with the Texans here.
