NFL – Miami Dolphins at New York Jets Betting Preview

We have bonus NFL on our screens on Saturday night as the first Saturday Night Football of the season takes place. It is an all-AFC East clash between New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins from the Meadowlands and MetLife Stadium.

It is fair to say this is a much bigger game for the Dolphins than it is for the Jets. Miami are still in playoff contention while the Jets’ hopes of postseason football ended a good while ago.

New York Jets

The last time we saw the New York Jets on primetime they stunk the place out and that is being kind to them. The Indianapolis Colts put up 41pts on them that night but credit to the Jets they bounced back with a win against the San Francisco 49ers last week.

What was encouraging about that win was the fact they went 14-0 down very early on and if they had wanted to turn it in for a second week in a row they had the platform to do so but they stuck to their task and turned things around in fine style which will hopefully have perked them up ahead of this game.

Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins kept their playoff hopes alive with an overtime win against the Arizona Cardinals last week and if they are to stay in the hunt of a wildcard in the AFC then this is simply a match they have to win. Last week came at a cost though as Ryan Tannehill suffered a season ending injury so Matt Moore will be under center here.

One reason why Miami are still in the hunt has been the form of running back Jay Ajayi and he is going to need to step up remarkably now although this Jets defence is meagre against the run so it will be hard for him here. It might be a match the Fins need to win on defence.

Betting

We’ve already seen one divisional battle this week be a low scoring clash and I fancy this one will follow suit too. Both offenses are without their first choice quarterback and both defences are competent enough to get the job done.

Bryce Petty doesn’t really convince anyone if the truth be told whereas Matt Moore has only attempted 16 passes in the last four seasons for the Dolphins so that is certainly less than ideal. That means both sides are going to have to find other ways to win but that involves going into the strength of the opposition’s defence. That all points to under 38pts to me.
