NFL – Monday Night Football: New York Giants at Minnesota Vikings Betting Preview

The final match of Week 4 of the NFL season is an all-NFC battle when the Minnesota Vikings host the New York Giants in the Monday Night Football. It has been a busy sporting weekend for the folks in Minnesota after the Ryder Cup was held there from Friday to Sunday and Vikings fans will hope this match yields a home win like that competition did.

Both sides head into this match with a winning record and a win for either will have them in a nice position to make it to the postseason even as early as just a quarter of the way through the campaign.

Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings have won all three matches this season. Much was made about their trade for Sam Bradford when Teddy Bridgewater got injured but it looks to have been a masterstroke now after the quarterback has guided the side to back to back wins. He won the most recent game without Adrian Peterson and he’ll have to continue to do that.

No matter how well Sam Bradford is playing you get the feeling that Minnesota will always win matches off the back of their watertight defence although that unit is going to be tested by these three tasty wide receivers that the Giants have.

New York Giants

The Giants won their opening two matches but they went down to Washington Redskins in a close battle last week. In their three matches so far the biggest winning margin has been just three points so they have shown their ability to win tight games and hold their nerve under pressure which bodes well for them.

The Giants will be without Shane Vereen now after he picked up a lengthy injury so it will be interesting to see if they are able to run the ball. If not then the likes of Odell Beckham Jr, Victor Cruz and Sterling Shepard will need to stand up and be counted. The Giants’ defence is much improved this season which is helpful.

Betting

It is interesting that Minnesota Vikings are the favourites for this match. Maybe that is down to home advantage but I’ve a feeling the Giants might sneak this one. That said I’ve not got enough of a feeling to put any money on it.

Instead I’m going to back the defences to keep things in check here. The Giants conceded 29pts to Washington last week but I’m not convinced this Minnesota offense is going to threaten as well as the Redskins’ one did and there is no doubt that the Giants are defensively strong.

The Vikings have already restricted arguably the two best quarterbacks in the league in Aaron Rodgers and Cam Newton to a combined 24pts in the last two weeks so their defence is definitely legit and with their elite running back now out for months if they can’t establish the run they might not get very far on offense even allowing for Stefon Diggs who is making a big name for himself.

I don’t see there being an avalanche of points in this match unless the defences put points on the board themselves. I expect both quarterbacks to play fairly safe though so I’m happy to get on under 43.5pts in this one.
