NFL Playoffs 2019 – Tennessee Titans @ Kansas City Chiefs Tips and Betting Preview

We will find out the two teams who will head to Miami in two weeks to compete in Super Bowl LIV on Sunday night when the two Championship matches are played out. First up it is the AFC as the Kansas City Chiefs host the Tennessee Titans for their spot in the big game.

The Chiefs host this match courtesy of being the number two seeds in the AFC and that was confirmed when the Tennessee Titans dumped out the number one seeds Baltimore Ravens in fine style last week.

Kansas City Chiefs

We saw both sides of the Kansas City Chiefs last week. They were horrendous for the first quarter and found themselves 24-0 down to the Houston Texans and seemingly seeing their season end at the first opportunity. We then saw the other side of them, the brilliance of Patrick Mahomes and in a flash it was the Chiefs that were in front and looking unstoppable in their mission to finally make it to the Super Bowl.

Clearly we will need more of the latter than the former here, but there must be a feeling of invincibility about Kansas City at the minute after that game. If you can overturn that deficit against a side of decent standing then you can probably do anything. They won’t want to think like that and fall into that trap again though. The simple fact is they know if they need to outscore a side to win they have what it takes to do it.

Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans are in the middle of an amazing spell at the minute having taken care of the New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens in the first two weeks of the playoffs. When you go to those places and win there isn’t anything that you are going to fear, and that is very much their strength going into this match. Arrowhead Stadium is daunting and challenging but so were those two venues and they came through in style in both.

A lot is quite rightly made of the impressive running game provided by Derrick Henry, but not enough attention has been given to the quarterback play of Ryan Tannehill in these playoffs, a man largely written off but who is performing as well as anyone right now. The other thing that shouldn’t be ignored is the quality of the Tennessee defence and while they are going to have their work cut out here, that unit gives them a chance.

Betting

I’ve a feeling the Tennessee Titans are going to keep this closer than the odds suggest but I got burned taking on the Kansas City Chiefs last week and I can’t bring myself to do it again so instead I’m going to look towards the side markets. I suspect this will be a high scoring game because the Chiefs can’t really do it any other way and they are the favourites for the match after all, but it is a player bet I’m going to take instead.

The bet in question is the rushing yards for Derrick Henry who has just exploded in recent times. His line is 116.5 but I’m not convinced that is enough. He has gone over 100 yards in seven of his last eight games with six of those clearing this line, including 188 against Kansas City in the regular season to start it all off. In the last three weeks he has just been a monster though. He has rushed for 211 yards, 182 yards and 195 yards, the last two against two of the best run defences in the league. If New England and Baltimore aren’t restricting him I don’t see how Kansas City do unless they plough into a huge early lead. I’ll take the over here.
