NFL Playoffs – New York Giants at Green Bay Packers Betting Preview

The final match of the wildcard round of the NFL Playoffs comes from the iconic Lambeau Field as the Green Bay Packers host the New York Giants in a huge NFC clash. Both sides will fancy their chances of making it to the showpiece in Houston if they can come through this so we’re in for a real battle.

After Seattle’s win on Saturday both these sides know the reward for the winner is a trip to Texas to take on the number one seeds Dallas Cowboys next week.

Green Bay Packers

The Packers came from the clouds to touch off Detroit in the NFC North and having won the division they now have the advantage of playing this match on home soil. The key to that run has been their offense coming alive. They have scored 30pts or more in their last four matches so that unit is hitting form at the right time.

Players coming back from injury has been vital to that but Aaron Rodgers has upped his game again which was needed. In fairness to the Packers’ defence they have been going well for most of the campaign and they will hope they have four more huge games in them.

New York Giants

Given how well the Dallas Cowboys have been going this season the Giants were only ever really playing for a wildcard this season and having secured that a couple of weeks ago it was perhaps a surprise that they kept all their starters in against Washington last week but they won that game so they take some momentum into this one with them.

They go into the postseason as the only side to beat the Dallas Cowboys this season so if they can win this one they will certainly fancy their chances next week. Defensively there is no questions of the Giants but the doubts emerge when it comes to their offense. Do they have the weapons to win a shootout if needs be? We might find out here.

Betting

I really think this one will be a tight tussle. The freezing cold weather conditions may not help the natural flow of the match and it may not help the offensive drives either. Both sides are pretty strong against the run so it will be down to the quarterbacks to get it done here.

That probably suits Green Bay but the Giants secondary has performed really well in the second half of the season. Given the magnitude of the game, the quality of the defences and the weather conditions a final score containing more than 45.5pts may be asking a lot. I like the under.
