NFL – Sunday Night Football – Carolina Panthers at Seattle Seahawks Betting Preview

The Sunday Night Football this week comes from the famous and noisy CenturyLink Field in Seattle as the NFC West leaders Seattle Seahawks host the reigning NFC champions Carolina Panthers in a match up between two of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the NFL.

When the season began this looked like being a pivotal match but Carolina have stunk the place out and are playing for pride while the Seahawks should canter to their division title from here on in.

Seattle Seahawks

Often at this time of the year the Seahawks really hit their straps and power towards the postseason which made last week’s low scoring reversal to the Bucs all the more surprising. Even more alarming was the fact they never scored a touchdown which halted the rise of Russell Wilson after a slow start to the season.

It is unlikely that the Seahawks’ offense will have taken that performance lightly and we should expect something of a response in this one. Their defence may well demand that response from them too because they remain in excellent touch and playing solid football, something Seattle hope will lead them deep in the playoffs.

Carolina Panthers

It is hard to pinpoint one thing that has gone wrong for the Carolina Panthers this season because they have done so much that has been pretty ugly. There have been signs of life again recently though. In their last seven matches they have won three and lost four with all four defeats being by field goals so it isn’t like they are getting thrashed anymore.

One surprise for me this season has been the relative lack of impact that Cam Newton has made. Admittedly he has had injuries at various points but he has only ran for five touchdowns which is quite low for him and he is yet to reach 2,500 passing yards for the season either. If Carolina are to win this match he has to step up and deliver both with his arms and his legs.

Betting

Two very inconsistent sides who flatter to deceive a little meet in this match and it is tricky to bet on it given how both have shown some surprising results when you would least expect them in recent times.

In these situations I tend to stick with what we can be fairly certain of and that is that both defences will be right up for this. Seattle’s defence will be looking to get at Cam Newton while Russell Wilson was sacked repeatedly last week and Carolina are having no problems getting to quarterbacks.

That all signifies the potential for this one to be a lower scoring match than we would like. In an ideal world Luke Kuechly would be playing but that isn’t that case. Even so the Panthers are going ok without him. I like under 44.5pts here in a game which has a 23-20 sort of feel to it.
