NFL – Sunday Night Football: New York Giants at Green Bay Packers Betting Preview

The final NFL match on Sunday as ever comes in the Sunday Night Football which this week takes place at Lambeau Field as the Green Bay Packers host the New York Giants in an all-NFC contest.

The Packers go into the week 2-1 for the season while the Giants are 2-2 after Monday night’s defeat to the Minnesota Vikings so both will be eager to pick up the win and strengthen their positions in their respective divisions.

Green Bay Packers

It has been a slow start to the campaign for Green Bay but the only reason for that is because the expectations of them is so high. Aaron Rodgers hasn’t been delivering the numbers we are used to from him but sometimes you have to pay respect to the divisions he has faced and Jacksonville and Minnesota contained him pretty well.

The Packers have had the bye week just to regroup and restore a little bit of confidence to their offensive unit although they should have had a fair degree of that anyway with the way they destroyed Detroit last time out. Green Bay are in the middle of a run of four home matches and they are always tough to beat here.

New York Giants

It has been an up and down season for the Giants so far but there have been positives to take from it. They began the season strongly with a couple of close wins over the Dallas Cowboys and the New Orleans Saints but defeats to Washington Redskins and Minnesota Vikings have just stunted their progress.

The Giants haven’t been able to fire on offense yet this season and they will need to fire up the band in that department here so to speak because I’m not convinced their bashed up defence will be able to contain Green Bay. Few sides have the receiving weapons they do though so there is every chance it could fire here.

Betting

Green Bay have the advantage of coming into this match off the bye week while New York Giants are on a short week so I’m expecting the Packers to win this match and win it well. There were signs against Detroit that their offense was beginning to power up and their defence has been solid all season.

That said the Packers defence, particularly in the backfield is inexperienced and they have a few injuries to deal with so I’m a little worried about a back door cover if I take the -7 so I’m going to leave that and side with the total points.

I suspect the Giants’ offense is about to catch fire. Odell Beckham Jr should finally get a match up he can dominate and the likes of Sterling Shepard and Victor Cruz are excellent options too. I expect the Giants to put up points here but with their own defensive personnel problems I expect them to concede quite a few points too so over 47.5 looks a natural bet to me.
