NFL – Week 12 – Thanksgiving – Washington Redskins at Dallas Cowboys Betting Preview

As is traditional these days the Dallas Cowboys host the second match on Thanksgiving Day and this year they do so in a divisional battle when the Washington Redskins are their opponents. The Cowboys have flown clear in the NFC East but Washington are enjoying a great season themselves and a win here would move them nearer the playoffs even if it is just as a wildcard.

Dallas Cowboys

Since going down in their opening match narrowly to the New York Giants the Cowboys have been perfect for the season with their rookies Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott shining in every match. The fact Prescott has seen off Tony Romo for the starting spot at quarterback says everything you need to know about how well he is playing and the numbers for Elliott speak for themselves.

Defensively Dallas have stood up to the mark this season too although their secondary is just starting to have one or two issues and they need stamping out ahead of this match because Washington are a dangerous side but the way Dallas are going right now there isn’t much mot to like about them.

Washington Redskins

Washington go into this match off the back of absolutely battering the Green Bay Packers last week in a match where Kirk Cousins looked very good and that is definitely no bad thing for the Redskins because when he gets hot he tends to stay hot for a while and they will need that to happen if they are to push for, and make it in to the playoffs.

Washington’s defence is starting to come to life too. A lot was expected of that side of the ball heading into the season with the high profile addition of Josh Norman to the secondary and it took a few weeks for them to look like the side we expected but Norman is standing up and being counted and the pass rushers are getting to the quarterback more too.

Betting

I’ve a feeling that the Redskins might make this harder work for Dallas than we would expect but anyone who knows me knows I don’t take road sides on Thursday nights unless they are really good things and I don’t quite have the Skins in that category so I’ll head to the player markets for bets in this one.

There are actually three I like in this match. The first is the passing yards of Kirk Cousins. At 290.5 yards I think the line is on a touch on the low side. Ben Roethlisberger torched Dallas for over 400 yards a couple of weeks ago and a bang average Joe Flacco with fewer options just three for 269 against them. Cousins has thrown for 458 and 375 in two of his last three matches so over 290.5 looks the right bet.

A good number of his yards have been courtesy of the receiving ability of Jamison Crowder and I like his receiving overs here too. Crowder has gone for over 100 yards in three of his last four matches with the exception being against a crash hot Minnesota defence which this one isn’t. I expect him to clear 55.5 yards.

I also like Cole Beasley’s receiving yards. We’ve mentioned in recent Dallas matches how he is Dak’s go to man and although that has changed a little in recent weeks with Josh Norman likely to keep Dez Bryant quiet Prescott will have to go back to his favourite target. Beasley’s line is 55.5 yards and that is well within his range.
