NFL – Week 13 DFS Fantasy Breakdown

There are plenty of NFL teams in action on Sunday night which means we have plenty of players in the pool for this week’s Fantasy Football games. As it is Sunday our fantasy partners DraftKings are giving away another $1m to someone lucky enough to nail the top score on the week.

There are also lots of other excellent value games to be attacked. Here is our advice on who to pick and avoid in Week 13 of the NFL season.

Quarterbacks

PICK – Matt Ryan (Atlanta) $6,800

Usually I wouldn’t advocate taking a quarterback against this Chiefs defence but Trevor Siemian was opening it up last week and if he can do it then Matty Ryan should about to get after inside his home dome. We know all about the connection with Julio Jones but the likes of Justin Hardy and Taylor Gabriel are becoming solid weapons too. Ryan should be a good pick.

PICK – Colin Kaepernick (San Francisco) $6,100

Slightly under the radar the San Francisco controversy man is going along nicely and while his team aren’t winning it isn’t the fault of CK7 necessarily. He is making big plays and lots of them and in terms of fantasy football he is scoring very well. He should be all over a woeful Chicago team and there should be plenty of output from him at a nice price for a QB.

AVOID – Andy Dalton (Cincinnati) $5,200

Dalton is fast running out of offensive weapons and let’s be honest he is pretty overrated when it comes to handling pressure so we don’t want to have anything to do with him this week against a perfectly efficient Philadelphia defence. If AJ Green was around it might be different but he isn’t so avoid the Prince Harry lookalike.

Running Backs

PICK – Jordan Howard (Chicago) $6,900

This one doesn’t need a lot of explaining. Jay Cutler is out in Chicago now and so Hoyer will need plenty of help from his running back against one of the worst run defences in the entire league. Howard can catch passes too so he should be a focus part of the Bears’ offense and with that he should run up the points.

PICK – Spencer Ware (Kansas City) $6,400

This is a brilliant match up for the Kansas City back against an Atlanta defence that just can’t stop the running for anything in the world right now. The downside is if the Chiefs go behind early but even then the run should open up the big plays so we’re happy to include Ware in our teams this week.

PICK – Jeremy Hill (Cincinnati) $4,300

Andy Dalton might have lost weapons in the passing game but Hill remains around in the back field and given the injuries to other personnel he is likely to see even more action. He may not blast out huge runs in this match but he should get lots of carries and the odd catch and that can see him produce a nice score for a low price.

AVOID – Jay Ajayi (Miami) $6,700

Not many running backs have had a lot of joy out of the Baltimore defence this season and it isn’t worth taking the Miami runner to change that here. You have to think his yardage will be restricted so at the cost the value is unlikely to be there this week.

AVOID – Todd Gurley (LA Rams) $5,000

We’ve been waiting all season for the explosive Rams’ running back to break out into the player we saw last season but it hasn’t really happened for him this year and it isn’t likely to happen against a Patriots defence who don’t give up a lot to running backs especially at Foxboro. With the Rams likely to be trailing for long periods he just isn’t worth the price tag.

Wide Receivers

PICK – Michael Thomas (New Orleans) $6,900

We’ve picked Michael Thomas in our betting for the week and it is worth having the rookie on side in the fantasy teams too. Drew Brees is gaining more and more trust in Thomas and as a result is going to him a lot more in pressure situations. In what is expected to be a shootout Thomas should see plenty of the ball.

PICK – Doug Baldwin (Seattle) $6,700

Plenty has been made of this Carolina secondary and it has been shown up regularly in recent weeks. Who better to show it up even more than the elusive and mobile Russell Wilson? Wilson’s main target is Doug Baldwin so we’re expecting the two to combine for a lot of points this week.

PICK – Tyreeq Hill (Kansas City) $4,600

Had a break out game against the Denver Broncos on SNF last week and he should come alive again when up against an Atlanta defence missing its number one corner. There will be plenty of space in the Falcons secondary to attack and this speedster looks perfectly set up to do just that.

PICK – Taylor Gabriel (Atlanta) $4,000

Gabriel is becoming a much more significant part of the Falcons offense. He caught for a couple of touchdowns last week and if the Chiefs can keep Julio Jones covered and quiet then Ryan could well spend most of his evening going in Gabriel’s direction again. He is a cheap option to fit in some more expensive players.

AVOID – Allen Robinson (Jacksonville) $5,800

This is far from Robinson’s greatest season anyway but a match up with the elite Denver Broncos defence isn’t likely to yield much in the way of change. Robinson is definitely not worth looking at in this match.

AVOID – Jamison Crowder (Washington) $5,800

We like Crowder a lot in our fantasy teams but he is becoming the focus more and more each week and as such teams like Arizona might make plans to stop his output and force Kirk Cousins to go somewhere else to beat them. I’m sure Crowder will be in our teams again at some point but this week isn’t the one.

Tight Ends

PICK – Travis Kelce (Kansas City) $4,700

Kelce is often a popular target for Alex Smith and with this Atlanta defence missing some serious personnel there is no reason why that won’t continue to be the case this week. Kelce had a big influence on the game in Denver and we’re expecting him to stamp his mark on this one too.

PICK – Zach Ertz (Philadelphia) $4,300

Ertz has a nice match up against a Cincinnati defence which gives up a fair bit of yardage down the middle. The time has come for Ertz to stand up and be counted on this offense and we’re sure he will have a big impact on this one at a tidy enough price.

AVOID – Lance Kendricks (LA Rams) $2,900

This Rams’ offense hasn’t really got going to the point that we know exactly who Jared Goff uses and who he avoids just yet but even allowing for that the Patriots are pretty strong up the middle so Kendricks might not see much joy here. Only two TDs have been scored by TEs against the Patriots this season which tells a story.

AVOID – Jared Cook (Green Bay) $2,900

In theory Jared Cook should be a good fit for this Green Bay offense but longevity and fitness are always big worries and with a key pass rusher out for the Texans in Clowney, Aaron Rodgers may get the time to find his better targets and lead his side down the field that way so we can leave Cook alone.

Defences

PICK – Denver Broncos $3,900

We have to pay out a fair bit for the Broncos defence this week but with good reason. They are scoring plenty of points and they go up against a Blake Bortles who has stunk the place out for most of the season. That is a perfect combination for a defence.

PICK – Baltimore Ravens $3,000

There doesn’t seem to be a week go by that the Ravens’ defence or Special Teams doesn’t make a big play and against a Miami offense which looked a touch too one dimensional if they can get it out of their comfort zone then there could be even more points on show for this defence. Take the Ravens D again this week.

AVOID – New York Giants $2,700

The Giants’ D is one we usually like but Pittsburgh at Heinz Field are a very dangerous proposition. Big Ben is playing brilliantly at home this season and he is finding his receivers on regular occasions so the Steelers could well run up the points in this one which isn’t ideal for defensive scoring.
