Now that the NFL season has reached its halfway point I have put together a review for our 2016 season long tips. About half of the teams have completed 8 games whilst the other half had taken their bye. The stats in the table below show the overall player numbers and their yardage per game. The latter gives a better indication of their ‘true’ position and chances of getting a payout.

Week 8 Review – Player Markets
Passing
As you can see we have fared well in the passing and rushing markets. Drew Brees lead the NFL in yards per game. There appear to be two challengers to him to lead the NFL in passing yards. The most dangerous is within his own division – Matt Ryan (Atlanta). The two of them will likely fight all season long to lead this category. At present Ryan has played two games more than Brees (this includes game 1 of week 9) so Ryan has about a 600 yard lead overall but Ryan trails in yards per game. Brees loves to win the NFL passing yardage title so I can see him having a huge final game. I think Kirk Cousins (Washington) will drop away.
NOTE – Tom Brady is averaging about 330 yards per game but he has no chance of catching Brees or Ryan because he missed 4 games.
I missed badly on Blake Bortles, a player who has truly regressed. To be fair the offence has been awful with a terrible co-ordinator who has now been sacked.
Rushing
Ezekiel Elliott leads the NFL in rushing yards and yards per game. I said the Cowboys OL would be dominant and I wasn’t wrong! I did mention DeMarco Murray in my Rushing Yards tips but backed his team-mate Derrick Henry instead. My thought was that they would share more of the carries – I was wrong. David Johnson is 3rd in rushing yards and 4th in rushing yards per game (just behind the fast charging Jay Ajayi). Injuries aside I’m confident of a win here for Elliott and a place for Johnson = RESULT!
Receiving
The receivers I chose have for the most part been hampered by poor to abysmal QB play (Hopkins and Robinson) or QB injuries (Brown). Brown is currently 9th and Brandin Cooks 19th in yards per game. I think the top 2 in this market – Julio Jones and AJ Green might be too far in front. In third place currently is Amari Cooper. He is catchable given the tough schedule the Raiders have in the second part of the season. A couple of big games from Brown and/or Cooks and they both leap into the top 3 or 4 places. Of the three markets this is the one I need some help in to get a payout.
I will add a review of our other 2016 Regular Season bets this weekend. They include some of the player awards and team markets.
