NFL – Week 9 Sunday DFS Fantasy Breakdown

As ever when there is a Sunday of the regular NFL season taking place there is a massive $1million prize to be won playing Fantasy Football with our official NFL fantasy partners at DraftKings.

Plenty of teams are on a bye this week so this isn’t actually the easiest competition to pick a team for especially with two of the higher scoring sides having played in the Thursday night game.

Despite that there are plenty of players to choose from and here is our guide for who to pick and who to avoid in your teams this week.

Quarterbacks

PICK – Dak Prescott (Dallas) $6,100

Yes I know is entire predictable but sometimes predictable is good. Dak Prescott just torched the Philadelphia Eagles defence last week and now they face a much inferior one this week when they go up against the Cleveland Browns. Prescott looks more and more like the real deal every time he plays so we want him on our side this week.

PICK – Ryan Tannehill (Miami) $5,600

The New York Jets continue to give up the deep ball and that is something which Ryan Tannehill might be able to exploit. Jarvis Landry is always a good weapon for the Miami trigger man and in a week where finding value at the quarterback position is tricky we think there is an ounce of it in Tannehill.

AVOID – Derek Carr (Oakland) $6,300

Derek Carr went all kinds of mental last week but this is a different week entirely and he may not get much change out of the Denver defence. Not many quarterbacks do go well against Denver and with Oakland not being on Primetime very often over the last few seasons this is a big game for them. Carr’s output might well be significantly lower this week.

AVOID – Blake Bortles (Jacksonville) $5,800

Optimism was high around Blake Bortles going into the season but he and the Jacksonville offense have been very average so far this season. They have lost their offensive co-ordinator so things are up in the air at the minute for the Jaguars so against a pretty good Kansas City defence Bortles is easy to ignore.

Running Backs

PICK – Ezekiel Elliott (Dallas) $7,900

If you have gone with Tannehill from the quarterbacks and you can afford Elliott then he is well worth taking here. He looks a lock to rush for well over 100 yards and you would think he will threaten the end zone too. The rookie rusher should pile up the points this week.

PICK – Devontae Booker (Denver) $6,400

Another rookie running back who we would like on our side. Oakland aren’t the best against running backs and allowed Jacquizz Rodgers to run all over them. Booker is now the starter for Denver and in a match the Broncos may well be leading in he should see an awful lot of carries to manage the clock and he should be a factor in the red zone too. He looks a solid acquisition.

PICK – Jay Ajayi (Miami) $6,000

The match up isn’t necessarily the best for the UK star but off the back of successive 200 yard rushing games can we really avoid him at this price? I don’t see how we can even if it is only as a flex option. The Jets are generally good against the run but they have shipped plenty of points to running backs in recent times so it is worth including him.

PICK – Charcandrick West (Kansas City) $4,400

Jacksonville are another side giving up plenty of points to running backs at the minute and with Spencer Ware ruled out this week West is likely to see plenty of action. Kansas should lead this match comfortably which will heighten his output. He will be a popular choice but again as a flex option he should deliver the goods.

AVOID – Todd Gurley (LA Rams) $5,800

Todd Gurley hasn’t set the world alight this season and he goes up against a Carolina defence which has its issues but they don’t come against the run generally. Form backs such as David Johnson and Tevin Coleman have been held to low totals and given that Gurley’s yards per carries is on the low side he is one to avoid.

AVOID – Latavius Murray (Denver) $4,000

Another easy one to avoid. He isn’t going all that well this season and Oakland are starting to bring the other backs into play a lot more. You would think Denver would get in front at some point in this match which might force Carr to throw the ball. Murray might be cheap but he still doesn’t represent value.

Wide Receivers

PICK – Jarvis Landry (Miami) $7,100

Landry has been Tannehill’s main man this season and he has run up the points in the catches alone without factoring in the yards that he has picked up from them. He is likely to be covered by Darrelle Revis but that is no longer the problem it used to be so Landry should score nicely this week.

PICK – Demaryius Thomas (Denver) $6,000

This hasn’t been the best of seasons for Denver’s star receiver but this Oakland side come around at just the right time for him. Trevor Siemian can get Thomas in the game early and then kick on and lead his man to a breakout game for the season.

PICK – Davante Adams (Green Bay) $5,900

Green Bay’s offense has got plenty of knocks and injuries at the minute and that is forcing Aaron Rodgers to look to other targets. Davante Adams is one of those. He has caught 25 passes in the last two weeks and is scoring some big points. At this price he is a no brainer at the minute.

PICK – Willie Snead (New Orleans) $5,800

San Francisco’s defence has been leaking touchdowns to wide receivers in recent weeks and Snead continues to get a sufficient number of targets from Drew Brees. After a two game blip where he didn’t score a lot Snead has got back into double figures in recent weeks and he should be able to upgrade his form another notch again here.

AVOID – Allen Robinson (Jacksonville) $6,900

Allen Robinson just hasn’t got going at all this season and while the Chiefs can give up yards to receivers there just seems to be no cohesion between him and Blake Bortles at the minute. With Bortles targeting elsewhere we should do exactly the same.

AVOID – Michael Crabtree (Oakland) $6,400

Crabtree had been Derek Carr’s friend in the red zone recently but it took him an age to go to him last week and with chances being few and far between in this match we can’t really afford that to happen again. With Amari Cooper becoming a wideout beast Crabtree might be best avoided this week.

Tight Ends

PICK – Antonio Gates (San Diego) $3,000

With Hunter Henry ruled out Philip Rivers’ mind has been focused to his favourite target and at this price it is almost a no brainer but to pick him up. We know how often Rivers goes to Gates in the big plays and when the pressure is on and he should score nicely for us here.

PICK – Richard Rodgers (Green Bay) $2,700

The Colts continue to struggle to defend tight ends and although Rodgers does a lot of blocking with the offense banged up he could be looked for more often this week especially as he is likely to be available quite often. He won’t run up the largest score in the world but this looks a low scoring week for tight ends anyway. At the very least he’ll chip in and free up some salary for the key positions.

AVOID – Zach Ertz (Philadelphia) $3,500

Ertz hasn’t really delivered too much this season and in a big divisional clash there will be plenty of pressure on Carson Wentz and he might go to the wide men that he has been linking up with nicely over the last couple of weeks. He’s pretty expensive for this position this week and we’re not looking to pay out this much.

Defences

PICK – Kansas City Chiefs $3,500

The Kansas City defence has lit up in recent weeks and against a Jacksonville offense whose struggles we have highlighted regularly in this post we should expect them to run up the points again here. 3.5k looks a lot on paper but we should get rewarded for stumping up the cash.

PICK – Miami Dolphins $3,100

I still can’t trust Ryan Fitzpatrick so I’m happy to take the Dolphins defence this week. Fitzpatrick has shown himself to be a turnover machine and the Fins know how to get takeaways. I fancy they will score well here.

AVOID – Baltimore Ravens $3,300

The Ravens defence is pretty bashed up and I don’t think it matters who starts at quarterback for the Steelers here they should find some joy linking up with their receivers. Pittsburgh can put plenty of points and yards on any side and the Ravens at this price may not produce the goods we would be looking for.
