Team GB Watch

Great Britain have plenty of medal chances on Saturday with the highest profile of them being Tom Daley in the diving. Nicola Adams looks to defend her Olympic title on Saturday evening as well and then there is Charley Hull in the golf too. There are also chances in the taekwondo with Mahama Cho and Bianca Walkden while Non Stanford, Helen Jenkins and Vicky Holland will be looking to emulate the Brownlees and win medals in the triathlon.

Boxing

Nicola Adams’ final is the headline bout of the day certainly as far as Great Britain are concerned. Having beaten the woman she beat to win Gold in London in the semi-final she is now no bigger than 1/4 to win the gold medal when she faces Sarah Ourahmoune from France on Saturday. Taking on Adams isn’t a successful gameplan but backing her at 1/4 offers minimal reward so we’ll just cheer her on.

Triathlon

Britain go into the women’s triathlon three handed but with nothing like as strong a chance of gold as they had in the men’s event. The minor medals aren’t beyond our girls though it has to be said although this is going to be a really tough event given the heat and the potentially choppy waves in the swim.

Gwen Jorgensen of America is the odds on favourite for the gold medal and it is hard to question that but we saw how tough the conditions are in the men’s race and I don’t feel comfortable backing a short price given the many things that can impact this race. That said standout value isn’t immediately apparent so I’ll leave this race alone.

Diving

All eyes will be on Tom Daley on Saturday evening to see if he can build on his bronze medal in the synchronised 10m event. Judging on the preliminary round he has every chance of that as he qualified in first place by seven points which is a pretty large margin.

Daley takes on the Chinese pair of Qui Bo and Chen Aisen, the latter winning gold in the synchronised event, with one or two potential dangers in behind and the qualifying round has opened the betting right up.

We’ve seen in a couple of the male events that the Chinese divers haven’t been in top form the longer this meeting has gone on and I’m prepared to take them on here. There is no doubt Tom Daley has improved markedly since London. He comes in here with the confidence of winning the European title earlier in the year and while others haven’t fully shown their hands Daley is diving well enough to justify odds of 3/1.
