The Paris 2024 Olympics comes to a close on Sunday as the last 13 gold medals are won and lost on a reduced day of action so that the competitive stuff has concluded in time for the closing ceremony in the French capital in the evening.
We might not have as many sports left in action on Sunday but the ones we do have will ensure we see plenty of competitive action because most of the events concluding are the team ones which have been ongoing for the past fortnight.

Cycling
We have three more gold medals to be won inside the Velodrome on Sunday with the Men’s Keirin always a highlight of any track programme while the Women’s Sprint carries plenty of interest as the semi-finals and the final get played out. The other event is the Women’s Omnium, the four event multi-discipline competition which is a test of endurance and will actually be the final gold medal won in the track cycling at this Olympics.
It is that event which interests me most from a betting point of view because I think we saw in the road race that Lotte Kopecky is in decent form. Not only is she in decent form but the endurance of this event will be right up her street. We saw in the sprint for the medals on the road that she has what it takes to beat the best when it comes down to sprinting. She also showed that she is smart enough to position herself in the best positions and over the four events I think she is going to take a lot of beating.
Volleyball
My final bet of the Paris 2024 Olympics will come in the Women’s Volleyball final where all eyes will be on the teams of Italy and USA to see who can land the penultimate team gold for the women. It is the best of five as always with USA a win away from making a successful defence of the title but it is the world number one side Italy who are the favourites to make their first ever Olympic medal a golden one and I’m with them.
Italy have coasted through this tournament, dropping just one set in total and have now won their last 14 sets in this competition. You could argue that they haven’t faced much in that time but that would be harsh on Turkey who are a good side in their own right but they couldn’t land a blow on this Italy outfit. USA actually lost their first match in this tournament and nearly lost their second one as well. To be fair, Brazil are a good side but they took the States to a decider in the semi-final and I expect Italy to be too good here. These two met twice in the Nations League in June and Italy won 3-1 and then 3-0 and one of those is what I expect the score to be here too.
