The second day of the Paris 2024 Olympics sees a number of sports continuing their action in the French capital on a day where another bunch of gold medals are up for grabs at a whole host of venues in a wide range of sports.
We saw some fantastic sport on Saturday and with the likes of Rafael Nadal, Adam Peaty and Simone Biles all on show in their disciplines on Sunday there is no reason why the second day of the games won’t see more of the same.
Gold Medal Events

Other Sports
There are plenty of other sports continuing on their journey on Sunday with the women’s Rugby Sevens getting up and running while it is also the second day of action in the women’s football. We have previewed the tennis for the day elsewhere on the site but there is also a continuation of the basketball, the gymnastics, badminton, beach volleyball, boxing, equestrian, handball, hockey, rowing, sailing, surfing, table tennis, volleyball and water polo on another busy day of action.
Women’s Football
There isn’t a huge amount that I like in the other sports on Sunday despite the incredible amount of sport that is on but my attention is lured towards the women’s football where the second round of group matches are being played as teams look to either enhance their chances of qualifying or look to stay in the hunt to go through in the final set of matches. Two teams who lost their opening match were New Zealand and Colombia and they meet in Lyon.
I’m with the World Cup quarter finalists Colombia here. They went down to the hosts France 3-2 in their opening match but offered enough to suggest that they can still come through this section, particularly after the demise of Canada in the competition. Despite all their issues, Canada were still able to beat New Zealand and I don’t think that reflects particularly well on the Kiwis and when these two met in a friendly towards the end of last year Colombia got the better of New Zealand. I expect the flair of this Colombia side to have too much for a limited New Zealand outfit and fancy them to cover a -1 Asian line.

Basketball
One of the events which is going to get plenty of profiling in these Olympic Games is the men’s basketball where there are some superstar names taking to the court across many teams while the host nation France will fancy their chances of going deep in the competition which will further add to the appeal of it. There are two kinds of basketball at the Paris Olympics – traditional basketball and 3×3 basketball and it is the regular version we are focusing on for our bet on Sunday.
That comes in the afternoon match between star studded USA and a Serbia side who in Nikola Jokic have an NBA superstar within their ranks too. LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Steph Curry are among a group of household names in the USA team so we should be in for quite an opening contest for these two. These are the two best teams in the group so they can give this a good go knowing that defeat is far from terminal for their hopes. While USA are strong offensively they nearly slipped up against South Sudan in a warm up game last week. These two played a warm up match where there were 184 points on show and I think the points come regularly here too. I like over 180.5 in this one.
