PDC World Darts Championship 2022 – Day 14 Afternoon Session Tips and Betting Preview

2022 begins with the quarter finals of the PDC World Darts Championship being played out and they do so across the form of two sessions of action inside the Alexandra Palace on New Year’s Day, beginning in the afternoon.

Two matches take place to start the year off as four men do battle over the best of nine sets for a place in the semi-final on Sunday evening. We have a former winner and three men who dream of getting their hands on this title on show.

James Wade vs Mervyn King

The opening quarter final of the tournament sees James Wade and Mervyn King looking to make it back to the semi-finals of this event where one of them will face the winner of the later clash between Gerwyn Price and Michael Smith.

I think it is fair to say that these two have made the last eight without treating us to their best stuff so far. Wade hasn’t even hit a 180 in the tournament but at the same time he has only dropped the one set in the two matches he has played. King has been better throughout the event, scoring better and generally finishing well but he has had some flat patches too. I don’t think anyone has turned up against Wade yet but I sense King will and if he does he has every chance of winning this. There is something about facing King that Wade doesn’t seem to enjoy because he’s lost the last seven meetings between the two, including that record average for King at the World Series Finals recently. Given that he has been the better player so far I think the value is with King here.

Luke Humphries vs Gary Anderson

The second quarter final of the day sees the UK Open finalist Luke Humphries taking on the man who knows how to go all the way in this tournament in the form of Gary Anderson, with a Sunday showdown against either Peter Wright or Callan Rydz the reward for the winner.

Humphries has been very impressive in the two matches he has played in this tournament. He came through an absolute epic against Chris Dobey where he had to come from 2-0 and 3-1 down in sets before winning a decider and you sense that will set him up well for this encounter. He has been to the quarter final twice before but never gone beyond it but you sense that he is ready to go the next step here. Anderson was slow in the early stages of this tournament but looked to be coming to the boil against Rob Cross in the last match, much like what we saw from him last year. I wouldn’t want to go against Anderson but I do think Humphries is ready to lay down a serious challenge here. If that challenge comes then Humphries should plough in the 180s and the even money that he hits 10 or more appeals. He smashed in 14 of them in seven sets against Dobey and we’ll get at least that long here you would think. The over looks good to me.
