PDC World Darts Championship 2023 – Day 14 Evening Session Tips and Betting Preview

The quarter finals of the PDC World Darts Championship conclude in the evening session inside the Alexandra Palace in London on New Year’s Day and by the end of it we will know the four men who will go at it in the semi-finals.

The two highest ranked players left in the tournament have been saved for the evening session which means we will see the former champions Gerwyn Price and Michael van Gerwen looking to make progress.

Gerwyn Price vs Gabriel Clemens

The opening quarter final of the evening sees the world number one Gerwyn Price taking on the lowest ranked player remaining in the tournament in the form of the German star Gabriel Clemens for a spot in the semi-final.

Price is making a bold defence of the money he won for winning this tournament two years ago and he knows he needs to keep winning to avoid a major hit on his rankings. You sense everything is a bonus from a ranking point of view from here on in for Clemens but he must know he might never be three wins away from the ultimate moment in his career ever again so that will put some pressure on his shoulders. Clemens generally keeps close to Price whenever they meet but they have never met in a match of this magnitude. I would expect Price to come through just on experience grounds really but I’m always reluctant to back him in front of this crowd who love an underdog and generally don’t like the Welshman. He hasn’t played that well in the tournament yet either so I will leave the match betting alone and the 180s rely on Clemens keeping close order which I’m not convinced by so rather than take something I don’t like I’ll give this one a swerve.

Michael van Gerwen vs Chris Dobey

The last of the quarter finals might turn out to be the best of them as Michael van Gerwen looks to move into the semi-finals once again when he meets the talented Chris Dobey who is looking to make the last four at Alexandra Palace for the first time.

Van Gerwen has looked awesome in this tournament so far but players have had chances against him but not taken them. Despite that, if van Gerwen plays like he has been recently he is going to be hard to stop here. Dobey tends to play well against van Gerwen though. Their last three meetings in leg play have all gone the distance while Dobey only went down 3-1 at the World Grand Prix so this could be a close quarter final, particularly if Dobey continues to get better as he has done throughout the tournament. I hope the form of the two can contract because I’m on Dobey to win this one at a double figure price having backed him for the quarter and while I’m not massively convinced it lands he isn’t without a chance so I’ll let that ride. Dobey 180s have been good to us in this tournament though and I expect him to fill the 60 up a few times here. His 180 line is 9.5 which is interesting. He has hit eight in the last two rounds in five and six sets. You would imagine we’ll get at least one more here so he should have plenty of time to reach double figures, especially if this gets as tight as their European Tour meetings this season. I’ll play the over.
