The third round of the PDC World Darts Championship concludes and the fourth round begins on what could be the best session of the tournament so far on Sunday evening when stars are everywhere you look inside the Alexandra Palace.
No fewer than three world champions are on show on Sunday evening and there is a former Premier League champion and one of the most entertaining players the sport has to offer. We are all set up for a great night of darts.
Ricky Evans vs Robert Owen
The final match of the third round opens up the night as two men lower down the rankings have a huge chance to make it through to the last 16 when Ricky Evans takes on Robert Owen in a match which could quickly be full of drama.
Owen was playing with the house money in the previous round having secured his tour card but suddenly the casino has given him some cash back because there is a huge chance to not just reach the last 16 but he wouldn’t be a complete no hoper in that match so he could get to the quarter final and turn his career right around. The same reward is on offer for Evans too so it wouldn’t be a surprise if drama and tension is on show throughout this match. I do think Evans showed a really good level in beating Dave Chisnall in the previous round, a level I’m not sure Owen could reach at this stage of the tournament, but the question is whether Evans can replicate that showing. Either way, I don’t think this is a match to bet on.

Jonny Clayton vs Gerwyn Price
The last 16 begins with an all-Welsh affair as World Cup teammates Jonny Clayton and Gerwyn Price battle it out to be the first player into the quarter final of a tournament both went into under a bit of a cloud form wise.
Price has answered the questions around his form and although he would want to finish better than he has, certainly in his match against Joe Cullen in the previous round, he will be delighted with his scoring and the more he gets into this tournament the more you would imagine he’ll start pinning his doubles. Clayton has had to come through two epic battles and there is a case to be made that he should have lost both of them. He has been much less impressive than Price and certainly needs to up his game if he is going to win here. I like Price in this match. Although they haven’t met this year, he has won nine of their last 10 matches but I’m already on Price outright so I don’t need to get involved in him here but I’m not passing up on the odds against on him hitting more than 7.5 180s. This looks like it has a minimum six sets in it so eight 180s in that time should be well within his range. He hit 13 in the win over Joe Cullen and scored really well. He’ll need to score well here and I think he will. Odds against on eight Price 180s looks more than good enough to me.
Luke Humphries vs Peter Wright
The final match of a really good looking night of darts sees the defending champion taking on the man who has won this title on two previous occasions as Luke Humphries takes on Peter Wright in a clash which has had a good build-up with a bit of a war of words between the two.
Wright went into this tournament with little expectation on his shoulders from the outside world but he has produced two good wins to make it to this stage. Both Wesley Plaisier and Jermaine Wattimena have reached big stage finals this year so the fact that Wright put paid to both of them speaks volumes for how he is going. The question mark comes in the form of his health because he looked to be really suffering with a chest infection and the last thing he needs is to be below par fitness wise. Humphries struggled a bit in the opening round but looked in much better order in the second match and you would imagine he’ll continue to improve now that he is getting a rhythm into the tournament. He won all four meetings these two played in the Premier League and despite the improvement in the Wright game I expect the world champion to win here. I was going to take the -2.5 set handicap but I’d like more than 4/5 to make it worth my while. Wright is playing well enough for that line to have a bit of jeopardy to it so I’ll leave this alone.
