Players Championship Snooker 2025 Final – Judd Trump vs Kyren Wilson Tips and Betting Preview

The final of the Players Championship will be played out in Telford on Sunday when the leading two players in the world rankings battle it out for the second Players Series title of the season as Judd Trump faces Kyren Wilson.

These two are building up a nice little rivalry and we get the latest chapter of it over the course of 19 frames on Sunday with both men wanting to get the better of the other and lay something of a marker down ahead of the Tour Championship and World Championship.

Judd Trump

Judd Trump went into the tournament as the favourite to lift the silverware and he is one win away from justifying that billing and doing exactly that. He has been solid enough this week but I still maintain that while the car is driving smoothly, he hasn’t put it into the top level of gears yet in this tournament. He has at least been put under pressure now having come through a tight semi-final with John Higgins. That hadn’t been the case prior to that.

When he was put under pressure he stepped up nicely so that bodes well for him in this final. There is no doubt that Trump has his best game with him this week because we have seen it in flashes. His task from here on in will be to ensure that it comes out in much stronger and longer periods. Trump generally performs in finals though and the man in the other chair is probably as likely as most to bring the best out of him so Trump fans and backers will be content so far.

Kyren Wilson

In terms of opponents that he has beaten this week, the world champion Kyren Wilson has probably played the best snooker on the week. He has seen off Mark Allen, Mark Williams and Neil Robertson and while the first two showed up without their best stuff with them, that wasn’t the case with Robertson and Wilson delivered one of the performances of the season to get the better of him. The world champion looks primed for a huge effort in this final.

There were some who feared that the tag of world champion would weigh heavy on the shoulders of Wilson this term but if anything it has motivated him to be even better and a win here would earn him a fourth title of the season with two more shots at silverware to come. Wilson looks like he is relishing being the world champion and he’ll be eager to bring Trump down in a final for the third time this season having done that in the Xi’an Grand Prix and Northern Ireland Open title matches.

Head-to-head

These two great players have faced each other on 25 previous occasions and it is Judd Trump who holds a 14-11 lead in those matches. His advantage in frames is 116-106 so matches between the two are fairly tight. This will be their fifth meeting of the season with Wilson 3-1 up on the matches they have played so far. Incredibly, this will be their first meeting at the Players Championship but they have competed over the best of 19 frames before. Wilson has won both matches over this distance and he is also 3-1 up in their previous four finals so this one is nicely poised.

Betting

We should be in for a great final between the two best players in the sport right now and I’m a little surprised that there is such a gap between the odds of the two competitors because I don’t really see much between them. There has just been something about Kyren Wilson this week that I have really liked and at the prices I’m happy to get involved in him to come out on top in what I would expect to be a pretty close final, much like the one they played in the Xi’an Grand Prix.

The best piece of form we have seen this week was Wilson against Neil Robertson in the semi-final. That was a high quality affair and while Judd Trump has seen off a couple of lively challengers, Shaun Murphy didn’t turn up against him and John Higgins fell away after getting himself into a winning position. I neither expect Wilson to not turn up here or fall away as the finish line approaches. Wilson has won their two previous finals this season and the value is on him completing the hat trick here.
