Premier League 2021-22 – Saturday 16th April Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

With it being FA Cup semi-final weekend we have a severely reduced set of fixtures in the Premier League but they get going on Saturday afternoon when just four fixtures take place as the season begins to head to its conclusion.

With the cup semi-final getting some of the TV love, just one of these four matches will be live on TV for us in the UK to enjoy. There are all the usual ways of keeping up with all the other games throughout the afternoon though.

Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (3pm unless stated – UK TV in brackets)

Tottenham Hotspur v Brighton & Hove Albion (12.30 – BT Sport 1)

Manchester United v Norwich City

Southampton v Arsenal

Watford v Brentford

Preview

The action begins in London where Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to seriously boost their top four chances when they welcome a Brighton and Hove Albion side who won at the other end of North London last week and will be looking for a quick capital double. Spurs go into the day in fourth place and will move six points clear of rivals Arsenal in the race for Champions League football ahead of the Gunners playing later in the day. Brighton play purely for pride here.

The other three matches all carry significance on Saturday. Arsenal will look to respond to whatever Tottenham do in the early match when they travel to St Mary’s to take on a Southampton side who will be all out to bounce back from last week’s heavy loss. The other two matches will affect things at the bottom of the table where the bottom two are in action. Norwich look to breathe further life into their survival chances when they head to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United while Watford host Brentford near enough having to win not just for their survival hopes but also to end their dismal home record.

Betting

Tottenham Hotspur are in a rich vein of form at the minute and I expect that to continue against Brighton and Hove Albion in the early kick off. Brighton had a good win at Arsenal last week to be fair to them but I don’t rate Arsenal as highly as some judges so and I certainly don’t rate them as highly as this Spurs side who are just on fire right now. I can’t say I’m still overly comfortable with them defensively but their attack is playing some lovely stuff right now.

The two goals Brighton scored last week were just their second and third in their last eight matches and that has to be a real concern for them. It also makes me think that Tottenham’s defence might not be under the sort of pressure it can be. Even if they are I expect Tottenham to outscore the Seagulls here. They have already beaten their Sussex opponents 3-1 in the FA Cup this season and a similar score wouldn’t surprise me here. However this ends with the form of Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son not to mention Dejan Kulasevski I just expect Spurs to have outscored Brighton by more than a goal.
