Premier League 2021-22 – Saturday 19th February Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

We have a bumper day of action in the Premier League on Saturday where no fewer than eight matches will take place up and down the country on a day which could mean plenty in the race to survive and the battle for the top four.

As ever on a Saturday we have a couple of matches live on the TV in the UK and then we are restricted to the usual methods to keep up to date with the other six games which take place in the traditional slot.

Early Kick Off

The opening match of the day will have implications at both ends of the table when West Ham United look to move back into fourth spot with a win when they host a Newcastle United side who have given themselves a great chance of avoiding the drop but who will also know that they still have a little bit of work to do in order to guarantee another season of Premier League football so the day should begin with something of a competitive affair.

3pm Matches

There are six matches in the usual 3pm slot on Saturday afternoon with two of the top three teams among those in action. Liverpool are the highest ranked side and they will be looking to move to within six points of Manchester City for a couple of hours at least when they host Norwich City at Anfield. Chelsea in third will be looking to restore further confidence after their win in the Club World Cup last weekend. They are involved in one of two London derbies on the day as they head to Selhurst Park to meet Crystal Palace.

Arsenal are still more than relevant in the race for the top four and they will be looking for that to remain the case on Saturday afternoon when they host a Brentford side who beat them on the opening day of the season. The other three matches will impact things at the bottom of the table as the team right at the very bottom, Burnley, head to the Amex Stadium to take on Brighton and Hove Albion while second bottom Watford to go Aston Villa. The other match sees Southampton looking to continue their good form when they welcome Everton to St Mary’s.

Late Game

The action concludes at the Etihad Stadium where the march towards another Premier League title could well continue for Manchester City. They will be buoyed by their emphatic win in the Champions League in midweek when they host Tottenham Hotspur. Doom and gloom has come over the Spurs part of North London again after a few very indifferent displays and then the comments made by Antonio Conte in the lead up to this game. Whether that inspires his players remains to be seen but the best match of the day on paper has been saved for last.

Betting

I’ll go with one bet over the course of the afternoon where Southampton take on Everton in a match I expect the home side to win. A lot has been made this week of the pit stops that Southampton employ in the second half of a match but I’m not convinced they’ll need one here against an Everton side who have been woeful on their travels this season, and while that might improve under Frank Lampard, the evidence when they went to Newcastle in their only away game under him would suggest that isn’t necessarily the case.

Southampton have only lost one home match all season and have held Manchester City and Tottenham at St Mary’s already this term so they are enjoying playing on home soil. Saints have only lost one of their last eight overall, which was away to Wolves who ironically were the only side to leave this part of Hampshire with the points this season so clearly they are a bogey team for Southampton. Everton finally got a league win on the board last week but Leeds were so bad in that match it was untrue. Based on what we’ve seen of Southampton at home and Everton away I’m happy to be on the home win with some draw cover.
