Premier League 2021-22 – Saturday 28th August Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The final round of matches in the Premier League prior to the first international break of the new season begins on Saturday afternoon when we have a couple of standout fixtures among the seven game card.

As ever on a Saturday when stadiums are full we have two matches live on TV in the UK with the others behind the 3pm blackout but there are oceans of ways to stay up to date with all of those throughout the afternoon.

Early Kick Off

The action begins at the home of the champions Manchester City as they look to follow up their emphatic win over Norwich City last week when they welcome Arsenal to the Etihad Stadium. Arsenal have looked rough in all departments so far this term so they are going to need to be a lot closer to their best to avoid taking a nasty beating here. City might be smarting from missing out on Cristiano Ronaldo and might look to show the Portuguese star just what he is missing.

3pm Matches

The five 3pm matches are all of a lower key level although the one at Villa Park will be interesting as Dean Smith’s current side Aston Villa take on his former one Brentford in what is probably the pick of the games. Two sides who have made positive starts to the season meet in another of the matches when Brighton and Hove Albion take on an Everton side who look set to kick on again under Rafael Benitez but who might have their work cut out here.

There is a London derby of importance at the London Stadium as the leaders West Ham United welcome a Crystal Palace side who are looking for their first points and first goal under Patrick Vieira. The other two matches sees Newcastle United also going in search of their first win when they welcome Southampton who make the long trip to St James’ Park. The other match sees Norwich City looking to kick their season into life when they welcome the FA Cup winners Leicester City to Carrow Road.

Late Game

The action concludes at Anfield where one of the marquee matches of any season takes place but especially so this time round if indeed the title is to be a four horse race. Two of those horses battle it out when Liverpool look to continue their perfect start against another side with a 100% record in the form of the Champions League winners Chelsea. Both sides are yet to concede a goal let alone drop a point but that will change for at least one of these two teams.

Betting

There are a couple of bets I like over the course of these matches with the first of them being over 2.5 goals in the match between Newcastle United and Southampton. There is an onus on Newcastle to push forward and look for goals with the fans back and to be fair they have a much better set of attackers than they’ve had for a while and Joe Willock will only strengthen that but Southampton might be sneaky good in the attacking department away from home with two very good attack minded full-backs who will get forward whenever they get the chance. Historically matches between these two here have plenty of goals and that is a trend I don’t see ending here.

West Ham United have begun the season on fire and I expect them to continue in that vein when they host a Crystal Palace side who are still finding their way under Patrick Vieira and who could do with one or two attacking players back before we see the best of them. West Ham look to be ticking along nicely and look to have so many goals in them right now with Michail Antonio absolutely flying and the support cast in midfield are all going well as well. There is a concern over the Hammers defensively but whether Palace are the side to exploit that I’m not so sure. Even if they score West Ham can still cover a -1 Asian line and that looks a solid bet to me.
