Premier League 2021-22 – Saturday 9th April Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The Premier League weekend continues with another five matches on Saturday as events at both ends of the table come under the spotlight. We might have to wait until Sunday for the big clash of the week but the Saturday card looks tasty enough to enjoy.

There might only be five matches over the course of the day but two of them will be on TV as always. Those matches which aren’t on the TV will have all the usual ways of staying abreast of the action as ever.

Early Kick Off

The action begins at Goodison Park where Everton have drawn a bit of a short straw with the schedule as they look to bounce back from that damaging defeat to Burnley on Wednesday evening. They host Manchester United who shouldn’t be showing them any let up given that they need points themselves in the race for the top four, although you wonder just how motivated in that race they are. This match is sure to impact both ends of the table so it is a great way to start the day.

3pm Matches

Arsenal will look to regain fourth spot in the table for a few hours at least on Saturday afternoon when they are one of the teams competing in the three matches in the traditional 3pm slot. They will look to bounce back from their defeat at Crystal Palace on Monday evening when they host Brighton and Hove Albion who have faded away from the top half of the table quicker than a brick going through water. Given how poor Arsenal looked on Monday evening this might be a chance for the Seagulls to get back on track.

At the other end of the table there is a big match at Vicarage Road. Just as Leeds United thought they might be able to cruise to the end of the season Burnley and Newcastle pick up wins which means the Yorkshire outfit could do with points from their clash with Watford. The Hornets head home in desperate need of a win after seeing Burnley win on Wednesday evening. The other match comes at St Mary’s where Southampton will welcome Chelsea who might be smarting from their Champions League disappointment in midweek.

Late Game

The action concludes with what should be an entertaining match at Villa Park where Aston Villa look to put a halt to three successive defeats when they welcome a Tottenham Hotspur who are showing signs in recent times that they might just be getting their act together. Spurs go into the day in fourth place and know that a win here will pile the pressure on the others ahead of the next set of fixtures over the Easter period so this should be a good way to round off the day.

Betting

Tottenham might be getting their act together but I still can’t trust them defensively. Even last week against a gun shy Newcastle United their keeper makes a howler and they concede a goal and that defence is likely to come under significant pressure from what is usually a vibrant Aston Villa attack, one which should be inspired by the profile of this game to get the ball and play on the front foot and let the quality they have at the top end of the pitch come out.

Tottenham can’t exactly sit back and see what happens not just because that defence isn’t strong enough but also because they have to keep winning football matches, especially if Manchester United and Arsenal have won earlier in the day. Their attack looks like it is in a nice groove at the minute and the rest of the team are chipping in with goals too. This is a banana skin game for Tottenham and whether they are good enough to win it or not I like over 2.5 goals in this one.
