Premier League 2021-22 – Side Markets Tips and Betting Preview

There are plenty more outright markets priced up for the new Premier League season which gets underway on Friday night and before the big kick off we’ll go through a few of the more popular side markets to see if there is any more value to be had.

I’ve had a good scour of the markets and there are a couple of value picks that I like the look of, one in the relegation market and another in the lowest scoring team one to complete our portfolio of Premier League outright bets for now.

Relegation

Last season this was a piece of cake of a market to get stuck into because Sheffield United always looked way out of their depth with the second season syndrome kicking in. It isn’t as easy to go at this term because the only second season side left in the competition are Leeds United and they’re no threat to go down. The three promoted teams are the favourites but I’m not sitting on a nine month bet at even money or just after.

There are a couple of sides who look vulnerable this term though, especially as I see newly promoted Brentford being fine this season. Southampton look an obvious candidate to flop this season given the poor form they showed throughout the second half of the last campaign and the players they have lost in the summer but bookmakers are all over that. At a bigger price Wolves might be more vulnerable. They have appointed a relatively inexperienced manager and we saw last year that their squad looks very vulnerable if Raul Jimenez gets injured. They didn’t end last season strongly and while I don’t take much notice of pre-season results I look at them a little more closely when a side needs a confidence boost. Theirs have been pretty poor and if Jimenez doesn’t return as the same beast Wolves could very easily struggle with a squad that is nowhere near deep enough for this level. At 5/1 I’ll pay to see if they go.

Lowest Scoring Team

The other market I like the look of is the Lowest Scoring Team one where we are looking for the team who will score the fewest amount of goals this season. Watford and Norwich are among the favourites for this market which is fair enough as you often see sides struggle for goals when they get promoted to the Premier League. I think Norwich will be ok goals wise. Watford is more of an issue but they’ve another 2-3 managers to get through between now and the end of the season so one of them might find some goals.

I prefer to focus on the teams who were involved in this division last season and of those Burnley were a distinct last in terms of goals. They found the net just 33 times, three fewer than Wolves although the injury to Raul Jimenez didn’t help their cause. His return should in theory lead to a few more goals. Nobody else scored fewer than 40 goals and the team on 40 were Brighton who in terms of xG underperformed to alarming levels. Burnley haven’t added anyone in the attacking areas so they look candidates to be the lowest scoring team this term.
