Premier League 2021-22 – Thursday 19th May Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

There is one more match day of action prior to the final day of the Premier League season and it comes along on Thursday evening, one which is an absolutely massive night at the bottom end of the table with two sides in action looking to boost their survival chances.

One of the three matches is live on the TV for us to enjoy on Thursday evening but there should be regular updates on the other games given the importance of the night so we can sit back and enjoy a tense night of football.

Everton vs Crystal Palace (19.45)

The first match to kick off comes from Goodison Park where Everton will be looking to secure Premier League football for another season when they welcome Crystal Palace to Merseyside for one of the biggest matches the famous old ground has seen in the last 35 years.

Everton will know this is their best chance of getting the three points which guarantees their survival given that they go to Arsenal on Sunday with the Gunners having plenty to play for themselves. Everton also don’t travel too well so they will be all out here. I’m not sure a defensively proficient Crystal Palace side who are dangerous in attacking areas are the team they would want to face though, especially with injuries and suspensions beginning to mount up. I would have considered backing Everton here but the fact they played so long with a man less on Sunday makes me doubt them a little. I’m happy to sit this one out.

Aston Villa vs Burnley (20.00 – Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)

The televised match on Thursday evening sees Aston Villa and Burnley renewing acquaintances when they meet at Villa Park 12 days after they battled it out at Turf Moor. This is a huge match for the visitors who need to avoid defeat to control their own destiny on the final day of the season.

Villa won 3-1 at Burnley just under two weeks ago and they’ll be out to finish the campaign in front of their own fans on a high but they are going to face stiff competition from a Burnley side who have to avoid defeat in this match else their fate will be out of their own hands on Sunday. Given what is on this for Burnley I think we might see some goals here. Steven Gerrard was visibly annoyed at his players on Saturday when they didn’t make the most of their chances and I expect him to send his players out to make up for that. Burnley should get chances of their own though because Villa are missing some key defensive players and could be without their goalkeeper. Burnley could also be without important defenders for this match and although they have picked up under Michael Jackson their results under him masks their xGA in that time so over 2.5 goals looks to have every chance to landing in this one.

Chelsea vs Leicester City (20.00)

The last of the three matches is just a dead rubber as the FA Cup finalists Chelsea play host to a Leicester City side whose season is done from a competitive point of view unless they are determined to get a top half finish.

If that is the case when the Foxes need one more win to secure that and might go after Chelsea but in reality this is just a contest where two teams are likely to play out the campaign. I would’ve looked at backing Chelsea but having gone to extra time on a baking hot day on Saturday and then suffered the disappointment of losing on penalties. They are entitled to feel a little flat after that and will surely have to rotate their personnel. This is the archetype stay well away from a betting viewpoint contest and that is exactly what I intend to do.
