Premier League 2021-22 – Wednesday 20th April Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The midweek slate of Premier League matches to catch up with rearranged fixtures from earlier in the campaign continues on Wednesday evening when another four take place up and down the country on what is a big night for some.

One of the four matches will be live on TV for us in the UK to watch and enjoy and I would imagine the other three games will all be covered in some shape or form via the TV coverage as the run in on the campaign begins to intensify.

Wednesday’s fixtures are as follows: (7.45pm unless stated – UK TV in brackets)

Chelsea vs Arsenal (Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)

Everton vs Leicester City

Newcastle United vs Crystal Palace

Manchester City vs Brighton and Hove Albion (8pm)

Preview

It is the London derby which gets the TV attention on Wednesday evening as the race for the top four remains in the spotlight. That sees Chelsea, who will need to completely fall apart not to finish third this season, hosting Arsenal who have picked the wrong time to run out of form but who will still move level on points with rivals Tottenham with a win. The other big match at the top end of the table comes from the Etihad Stadium where Manchester City will be looking for the three points which will see them return to the top of the table. Brighton and Hove Albion will be the team looking to deny them those points and having beaten Arsenal and Tottenham on their travels in their last two matches they might fancy their chances of doing so.

The other two matches sees the focus turning to the other end of the table where it is a potentially big night for Everton in their quest to remain in the Premier League. They begin the night just three points above the relegation zone so will be eager to maximise their home match with Leicester City. The other game comes from St James’ Park where Newcastle can hit the magical 40 point mark if they beat Crystal Palace but their 37 point total is already more than enough to keep them in the division. Palace will move back into the top half of the table with a win however.

Betting

Chelsea have had a lot of football in recent times but I would be surprised if that stops them from being an Arsenal side who are showing more than one or two signs of having run their race this season. The Gunners have lost three of their last four matches and in that run they were absolutely horrendous at Crystal Palace and not a great deal better at home to Brighton. There was all sorts of weird messages coming out of Mikel Arteta after the loss to Southampton on Saturday as well.

Arsenal struggle a lot without Thomas Partey in their side but I would wager they struggle just as much without Kieran Tierney as well and both will be absent for this match so even a changed Chelsea team should have too much for Arsenal. When you look at who played and who didn’t at Wembley on Sunday, Romelu Lukaku only played a few minutes as did N’Golo Kante, Hakim Ziyech and Thiago Silva so they could form a pretty strong spine of the side here. Arsenal are not good on their travels and have a negative xGD in away matches. They have played three of their fellow so called big six away from the Emirates this season with a 5-0 loss at Manchester City, 4-0 defeat to Liverpool and a 3-2 loss at an ordinary Manchester United. The stage of the season might mean Chelsea don’t run up those sorts of emphatic scores here but it is hard to envisage anything but a win for the Blues.
