Premier League 2022-23 – Friday 16th September Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Premier League returns from a weekend off to mourn the passing of Queen Elizabeth II on Friday night when two matches take place as four of the lesser lights get a decent spotlight to show us what they have got.

One of the two matches will be live on the TV for us in the UK to watch and enjoy and I’m sure there will be regular updates of the other one throughout the coverage either in score format or highlights at some point. We’ll begin the preview with the TV game.

Aston Villa vs Southampton (20.00 – Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)

The TV cameras will be at Villa Park on Friday night where the under fire Steven Gerrard and his Aston Villa team welcome a Southampton side who will be quietly content with their beginning to the season and will fancy their chances of another result here.

There was a lot of cash spent by the Villans in the close season and so far all they have to show for their efforts in terms of wins is one over Everton where they fell over the line. There were signs of something to cling onto when they held the champions Manchester City last time out but in truth they were battered in that game but hung around and took advantage when their chance came. Southampton have seven points from their opening six matches but will probably feel they deserved more from defeats to Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers in games they won the xG both times. I fancy Southampton might get something from this game but the fact neither team have kept a clean sheet this season puts me off getting involved in the result. I do think we’ll get goals here though because both will definitely feel they can win this match and neither defence is what you would call watertight. The attacking players should get the chance to do their thing here and the 5/6 on over 2.5 goals looks a perfectly fair bet to me.

Nottingham Forest vs Fulham (20.00)

The match away from the TV cameras comes from the City Ground where Nottingham Forest will look for a second win of their Premier League campaign when they host a Fulham side who begin the evening in the top half of the table.

These two both came up from the Championship together last season and I suspect Forest fans won’t need to remind them that Fulham went to Nottingham and came away with a 4-0 win last term. I don’t expect that to happen again here but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Londoners get something from this trip because you would imagine the Forest collapse at the feet of Bournemouth last time out will have left a lasting effect. Fulham have started the season pretty well and will probably get better for the additions they made towards the end of the transfer window. You could probably say the same about the home side although how long it will take their new army of signings to gel and hit 100% output is anyone’s guess. My instinct tells me an away win is a fair chance but it is reflected in the price so I’m happy to leave this one alone.
